Samuel Alito Thinking About Retirement: Report
Source: Newsweek

Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito is considering retirement amid pushback he has received in recent months, according to a new report.
Alito has faced criticism for his household flying an upside-down U.S. flag in January 2021, a symbol associated with the "Stop the Steal" campaign aimed at overturning President Joe Biden's 2020 election win. He also saw a notable loss in a ruling on how social media sites should moderate content.
The 74-year-old "has reflected in private about retirement," a new CNN report has stated, citing sources "inside and outside the court with knowledge of the deliberations."
Newsweek has contacted Alito for comment outside of typical working hours.

(18,391 posts)Itd be done immediately. The reason we didnt get a replacement for RBG is we didnt have the senate.

(12,283 posts)If TFG wins in November, he sticks it out until after Jan 20 so a Republican appoints his successor. If TFG loses, he could retire any time after the election is called, because then a Dem appoints his successor regardless. (Well, there's one more variable, which is if Harris wins, but the Senate majority shifts to Republican control... but that's an almost impossible scenario.)

"OMG alito might retire! We need trump to appoint another handmaid to the court!"

(3,277 posts)I guess this is just a pet peeve of mine, so forgive me!
Amy Coney Barrett isn't a handmaid. The handmaids are the protagonists and the heroines of the story. We would be lucky to have some handmaids on the court, because the handmaids are the ones who rebel and who get stuff done.
Karma13612

(140,580 posts)Shrub ORIGINALLY wanted Roberts for the Sandra Day O'Connor vacancy... but then Rehnquist bought the farm. So a switcheroo happened where Roberts was instead submitted to directly replace Rehnquist as Chief Justice and then Miers was next up.
When Miers failed, that is when Alito was brought in to finally take O'Connor's seat.
So he was the 3rd string pick.

A jury of peers would not take long to connect the dots between a free motor home, lavish vacations, perks for realtives (like tuition) and votes on cases that always went the direction of the Crow amicus brief.
The quid pro quo is obvious to any person who is not headless.
Your votes went 125-0 in favor of Crow's opinions...not a coincidence. Especially if you were in a 6-3, 7-2, or 8-1 minority .
