US issues new batch of sanctions targeting West Bank settlers amid rampant violence
Source: The Times of Israel (Jerusalem)
The Biden administration issued its sixth batch of sanctions targeting Israeli settler violence in the West Bank, blacklisting a group that provides volunteer guards for illegal outposts and a civilian security guard for a flashpoint settlement who has allegedly engaged in attacks against Palestinians.
The sanctions against the Hashomer Yosh (Guardians of Judea and Samaria) organization, and against Yitzhak Levi Filant, the chief security officer for the Yitzhar settlement in the northern West Bank, came days after two violent settler rampages through Palestinian towns in the West Bank left a pair of Palestinians dead. No arrests have been made in the most recent attack near Bethlehem.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahus office issued a statement saying that it views with great severity the imposition of sanctions against Israeli citizens, and said the issue was the subject of deep discussions with the US.
[Ariel] Kallner, of the ruling Likud party, described Hashomer Yosh as a pioneering organization in a social media post defending the group and denounced the sanctions as a gross violation of Israeli sovereignty. To the US administration: President Biden and Vice President Mrs Harris, to tell us dont after the massacre will not move us. Stop the antisemitic persecution and dont forget: No power in the world has succeeded and will not succeed in severing the connection between the people of Israel and its land, Kallner wrote on X.

(33,409 posts)It redeployed its troops out of the specified West Bank areas. The PLO did not comply with the terms. It did nothing to stop the terror attacks against Israeli citizens. Oslo II was a temporary agreement which expired May 4, 1999. The Palestinians refused to negotiate anything further.

(54,553 posts)and it, in this instance, was not responding to a terrorist attack. It was the settlers who engaged in the attack. Israel has multiple times agreed to curb settler activity, yet it has failed to do so. The Biden administration has been very clear on this point, which is why it has imposed sanctions. Do you choose to stand with Israel over the Democratic administration and Kamala Harris?

(33,409 posts)Wrong. No basis? Wrong. Jordan attacked Israel in 1967 and lost the West Bank as a result of that war. The Wadi Araba treaty between Israel and Jordan was signed in 1994 resolving the West Bank issue and ending the state of war which existed since 1948. Israel has not been sanctioned as you imply. Individual settlers have been. Don't try and give Biden or Harris positions that you wish they have taken but they have not.

and you refused to answer the question directly.
Jordon may have lost the West Bank, but it has never legally become part of Israel. Only the far right in Israel claims it for theirs-- the settlers fall in that camp-- and you would seem to side with the most radical elements in that country. Additionally, in her interview last night, Kamala affirmed the goal of a two-state solution, which means the West Bank would be part of a Palestinian state, not Israel.

Fuck Nuttyahoo for turning a blind eye toward the settlers.

(1,258 posts)Do they really think that having illegal settlements in the West Bank is going to prevent a lot of Palestinians from resisting/joining Hamas? Look, we all know Hamas is a terrible terrorist organization, and yes, they should be stopped. But then again, I don't see how having these far-right settlers in the West Bank and who are violent against Palestinians is going to make the Palestinians stop supporting Hamas, it actually probably would do the opposite.
