'Crisis pregnancy centers' sue Massachusetts for campaign targeting their anti-abortion practices

BOSTON -- Massachusetts Gov. Maura Healey launched a $1 million taxpayer-funded initiative in June designed to discourage people from seeking help from “crisis pregnancy centers” that are typically religiously affiliated and counsel clients against having abortions.

The campaign includes ads on social media, billboards, radio and buses warning people to avoid the centers — which the administration dubbed “anti-abortion” — saying they're not to be trusted for comprehensive reproductive health care. Center operators are pushing back, teaming with a national conservative law firm to challenge the campaign, saying it infringes on their constitutional rights.

The Washington-based American Center for Law and Justice filed a lawsuit earlier this month in federal court on behalf of Your Options Medical, which operates four anti-abortion pregnancy clinics in the eastern part of the state. The lawsuit names Healey; state Department of Public Health Commissioner Robert Goldstein; and Rebecca Hart Holder, executive director of the Reproductive Equity Now Foundation, a nonprofit focused on educating the public about equitable access to reproductive health care.

The suit alleges the state initiative amounts to an unconstitutional violation of free speech and of equal protection rights for those who run the pregnancy crisis centers. The plaintiffs also argue that the state is subjecting them to religious discrimination.

MA is not "banning" the organization. Free speech advocates always say - "If you don't like the 'speech' then do 'more speech' to counter it". The state is doing "more speech".

First, they should not be allowed to do ultrasound without a medical license and being part of an actual healthcare organization. Their staffers even sometimes wear white coats and medical clothing to make women believe they’re medically trained when they re not. They pull young women in with the ultrasound pregnancy test and often lie by telling them they’re too far along for a medication abortion. They do not provide any real healthcare, such as prenatal vitamins, regular checkups, or testing for STDs. No tax dollars should ever go to these extremist Christian organizations.

I checked out the local "crisis pregnancy" center, "for a young friend." No medical staff, no actual help (OK, a package of diapers), just loads of guilt and referrals to state welfare agencies for financial assistance. Absolutely bogus.
Glad MA is spreading the word.

Didn't the 6 clowns rule that States can determine their own path? Such phony hypocrites. Lying, deceitful anti-abortion front groups being backed up by the 6 clowns of the SC. That's probably how this is going to play out.
