Georgia puts Cornel West, Jill Stein and Claudia De la Cruz on the state's presidential ballots

ATLANTA (AP) Georgia voters are likely to be able to choose from six candidates for president after Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger on Thursday put Cornel West and Claudia De la Cruz back on the ballot and ruled that the Green Partys Jill Stein had qualified by another route.
Raffensperger, an elected Republican, overruled findings made last week by an administrative law judge that removed West and De la Cruz. West is running as an independent. De la Cruz is the nominee of the Party for Socialism and Liberation but has qualified as an independent in Georgia.
Challenges to independent Robert F. Kennedy Jr. were dismissed as moot after Kennedy sent papers to Georgia on Monday to officially withdraw his name. Kennedy last week said he was suspending his campaign, withdrawing from the ballot in the most competitive states and endorsing Republican Donald Trump.
Democrats who are trying to knock West, De la Cruz and Stein off the ballot could appeal the decision, but time is running short. Georgia mails out military and overseas ballots starting Sept. 17. If the decisions stand, Georgia voters will have six choices for president Trump, West, De la Cruz, Stein, Democrat Kamala Harris and Libertarian Chase Oliver. It would be the first time since 1948 that Georgians would have more than four choices for president. Democrats, Republicans and Libertarians automatically qualify for elections in Georgia.

(140,914 posts)Interestingly enough though, of all these 3rd parties, the Libertarians consistently far out-pace the others and they may pick up extra for those who refuse to vote for 45 or a Democrat.

(12,828 posts)Stein, West, and the Socialist candidate will probably appeal more to potential Dem voters whod be inclined to stay at home otherwise. There are also a LOT of motivated Democratic-leaning voters in Georgia, not only in metro Atlanta but scattered around the state.
Its going to be tight, with all the white Christian nationalists and other boneheads we have in Georgia (not to mention all the obstacles the Republicans have strewn in our path), but I think Harris has a decent chance to win the state.

(140,914 posts)I know here in PA, the Libertarian vote far outnumbers any of the others I have seen (e.g., "Green Party" & "Constitution Party" are the main others) and they are definitely a disaffected/"principled" GOP fallback.
And with respect to Stein, I think she very publicly outed herself, post-2016, so i think she is toast now. West may grab some (naive) "activist" voters.
Its their only hope! Fuckers!

Gee whiz...
Give it a REST, Jill-baby. You're nothing but a punchline now. Or a political groupie, maybe. The opportunity for you to bow out gracefully, with at least some of your self-respect still intact, has LONG since passed.
