Nebraska Supreme Court rejects two lawsuits challenging abortion-rights petition

LINCOLN — The Nebraska Supreme Court on Thursday rejected fast-tracking a pair of lawsuits seeking to remove an abortion-rights constitutional amendment from the fall ballot.

Time is short for either effort, one from a Douglas County woman funded by the socially conservative Thomas More Society and one backed by local abortion opponents.

Nebraska Secretary of State Bob Evnen has until Sept. 13 to finalize the November general election ballot. He announced on Aug. 23 that the measure qualified for the ballot.

The second lawsuit was filed Wednesday, hours after the Nebraska Supreme Court declined to take up the first. Attorneys for the Douglas County woman, Carolyn LaGreca, tried to correct a mistake on the first lawsuit and refiled it. But the court again rejected the case Thursday.

After Dobbs, the holier than thou in Kansas in 2021 insisted By God that a ban on abortion be voted on by the people. They got their wish and lost 59 to 41. Other states were watching. Hell no let’s not put that on the ballot. We don’t want “them the people” voting on our attempt to codify OUR religious beliefs. Kansas is ruby red but I was proud of that vote. AND. The Kansas Catholic Church spent more than 4 million tax exempt dollars in a losing effort. How many meals on wheels would 4 million buy? About 800,000.

but Gov Kelly and Johnson/Wyandotte Counties I believe overwhelmed with their awesome voting. My memory's a bit dim, but it is Sharice David's territory.

Is a superstar in Dem politics. Imagine her not constrained by the chucklehead republicans in Topeka. She gave me a pen in 2019. A cherished possession.
