X, formerly known as Twitter, has revealed when it will permanently close its San Francisco headquarters after the Elon Musk-owned company earlier this year announced plans to move its operations to Texas.
The official closing date will be Friday, Sept. 13, Fortune first reported, citing a person familiar with the matter. X informed employees of the impending office closure in a memo Thursday, according to the publication. New York Times reporter Kate Conger, who covers X, also reported that the headquarters will close Sept. 13.
Twitter was launched in San Francisco in 2006, and its first headquarters was at 164 South Park Ave.
X did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

(36,462 posts)The name "twitter" is established among its many users and most people who do not use it. The Egoloon can't change that with legal documents calling it the nondescript 'X'.
The word "hacker" didn't come to be synonymous with "computer vandal" until the news media popularized the term. Now it's inseparable in the public's mind.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) A brightly flashing X sign has been removed from the San Francisco headquarters of the company formerly known as Twitter just days after it was installed.
The San Francisco Department of Building Inspection said Monday it received 24 complaints about the unpermitted structure over the weekend. Complaints included concerns about its structural safety and illumination.
The Elon Musk-owned company, which has been rebranded as X, had removed the Twitter sign and iconic blue bird logo from the building last week. That work was temporarily paused because the company did not have the necessary permits. For a time, the er at the end of Twitter remained up due to the abrupt halt of the sign takedown.
The city of San Francisco had opened a complaint and launched an investigation into the giant X sign, which was installed Friday on top of the downtown building as Musk continues his rebrand of the social media platform.

(109 posts)Twittter is surrounded by high rise apartment buildings, imagine that thing flashing into your living room or bedroom windows all night long! Of course, Musk did this without any input from city officials... what could go wrong? An average earthquake could topple that apparatus onto the street below if not seismically sound.

He's not a good parent.
Nor is he a good businessman.
He's mixing the two, which is not good.
At least Trump didn't tear down the Trump tower when he left NY, nor did he tear up his Bedminster club in NJ.
Elon is cukoo.
