Donald Trump comes out in support of recreational-use marijuana in Florida
Source: The Guardian
Donald Trump has come out in support for a proposed constitutional amendment that would legalize recreational marijuana in Florida, the state where he resides.
In a Truth Social post on Saturday, Trump said personal amounts of marijuana will be legalized for adults with Floridas amendment 3 whether people like it or not.
The former US president said someone should not be a criminal in Florida, when this is legal in so many other States. He added: We do not need to ruin lives & waste Taxpayer Dollars arresting adults with personal amounts of it on them.
Trumps support contrasts with Floridas governor and fellow Republican, Ron DeSantis, who has been a vocal opponent of the ballot measure. This is bad policy and even worse constitutional law, DeSantis wrote in an X post this week.

(10,408 posts)This should have been something Kamala was on top of a long time ago.
By being timid on issues that are popular with close to 80% of the country, we are allowing him to outflank us in really stupid ways -and on issues we are already traditionally aligned with.
She needs to immediately start calling for the legalization of weed. Yesterday.

(645 posts)though I'm not sure he has a mind. Perhaps that hobgoblin has just taken up rent-free residence in his id. His position tends to be that of whoever had his ear last. You know, like abortion. Wait a bit for when he's speaking before a horde of christofascists who think it's a "gateway drug," this will probably change. His supporters don't care about "flip-flopping," and neither does the press.
But yeah, recreational (and by default medical) marijuana legalization should have been a Democratic Party national platform item a VERY long time ago. Removal of prohibitions, legalization of research into medical possibilities at universities, whole nine yards. Legalization can really help with government revenue as well, and that could be used on expanding public health care and housing if the effort was made. But no. Too busy trying to win back those "Reagan Democrats," or something? Probably James Carville's doing.

(23,991 posts)Too many 'conservatives in FL' or too many elderly people not wanting the wicked weed to flourish in FL.
I hope for the people of FL, allowing them a choice on what they can have plus a bonus, FL makes tax revenues off the sales of POT. It's a win/win. And there are probably lots of people who could benefit from smoking a little bit of it, to relax their joints (bones, etc.), relieve the stress, etc.).
And f**k djt. He's just getting desperate to get any additional votes to get back into the WH. And yes, he's that desperate to flip / flop
on every issue.

(68 posts)People act like he's this shrewd, brilliant tactical mind who will always run circles around the Democrats and catch them all flat-footed. The truth is that he's just a two-bit charlatan, huckster, and carnival barker who will say and do anything to get people to like him.
