Ohio Senator and former President Donald Trump's running mate JD Vance is facing new backlash on social media over remarks he made on a podcast in 2021 when he said that professional women "choose a path to misery" when they prioritize careers over having children.
During a podcast recording with American Moment, a conservative nonprofit, Vance was asked what he saw inside elite institutions, such as Yale Law School where he attended, that made him view them as corrupt.
"You have women who think that truly the liberationist path is to spend 90 hours a week working in a cubicle...instead of starting a family and having children," Vance told American Moment's president and founder Saurabh Sharma and its COO Nick Solheim. "...What they don't realizeand I think some of them do eventually realize that, thank Godis that that is actually a path to misery. And the path to happiness and to fulfillment is something that these institutions are telling people not to do."
He continued: "The corruption is it puts people on a career pipeline that causes them to chase things that will make them miserable and unhappy. And so, they get in positions of power and then they project that misery and happiness on the rest of society."

(577 posts)See what happens you hill billy piece of shit. Women do stay home and take care of their families. Then their husbands leave them for young girls. You can't rely on the old model. I've seen too many women forced to live in poverty while their ex husbands enjoy the full benefit of their labor. Fuck you JD VANCE, you are dumber than a box of rocks.

(843 posts)A lot if not most of his weird ass misogynistic garbage can be explained by his hatred for his mother. Similar to Tucker Carlson and his "hippie mom" who walked out on him as a child. J.D. needs psychological help.

Was there a question on the application, asking if the applicant was willing to go to prison for Trump, and he was the only candidate who answered the question 'correctly'?
Just,.... WEIRD!!

(12,595 posts)I doubt the orange fucker really had much of an idea who he even was. Pretty sure he had no role in it - they told him, with tears in their eyes, "oh sir, sir, this young man will bring all the womenfolk to the ticket, and he'll counter all the draft dodger talk." Maybe they should have done a bit more research, but I think Peter Thiel, among other oligarch robber barons, positively salivates at the thought of him being one heartbeat away from the Oval Office.

(492 posts)At the time of their convention, the MAGAts were convinced they were going to win in a historic landslide. Trump picked Vance on the advice of his sons to go full Nazi. There were other less blatantly offensive possibilities as finalists. Trump intentionally pick the absolute worst one in an attempt to poke a sharp stick in the eye of the non-MAGAts. As with most things Trump does, he made the worst possible decision. Well, worst for him best for us.

I'm not at all surprised that Tucks is also a Vance fan boy, or that he's taking credit for the choice, but doubt he's solely responsible.

(12,595 posts)A high-paid, high-stress corporate (or academic) job isn't for all women, any more than it's for all men. Some people thrive in that atmosphere. Many do not. The whole point, Hillbilli Vanilli, is not to make judgements or decisions FOR other people. If a woman - or a man - is happier as a stay-at-home caregiver, it'd be nice if they could choose to do that. Equally, a person who would be stifled and miserable in that environment shouldn't be forced into it because of some archaic gender-role horseshit.

(2,057 posts)Settle for less, stay for the kids, stay because of money, stay because we mistakenly believe somehow it will get better, but we love them.
Especially if we are raised by misogynistic fathers, subservient mothers or religious cults we are taught to believe that males have the right to dominate us, they are better than us, that they own us. We are misled by the media that we are not pretty enough, sexy enough, smart enough, good enough, talented enough. We are told when raped/sexually assaulted we deserved this because whatever excuse they want to make or no excuse at all. We are treated lesser than at our jobs snd careers. Sexism exists in every corner of the world. And because the myths of patriarchy are prolific and deeply embedded they are not easily undone.
Education is key to the unravelling of inequality and building of true equality.
Thank you so much Diamond_Dog for asking the question. Thats the start to understanding and evolving.

(18,510 posts)But he thinks women who choose careers over marriage and children are only doing it because they've bought into a value system that promotes "pursuing racial or gender equality":
In other words, Vance believes all those silly little females just think they don't want marriage and kids because they've been told they shouldn't. 🤪
Weirdly, he doesn't seem to recognize the existence of women who are married and have children and a career. He seems to think it's an either/or choice, no exceptions. Which makes me wonder what planet he's been living on!
