2020 election deniers ordered to pay $1 million in Pennsylvania voting machine dispute

CNN A Pennsylvania judge has determined that three 2020 election deniers must pay nearly $1 million in fees as the result of a years-long legal dispute with state officials over voting equipment used during the last presidential race, according to recent court filings.
Recommendations from the judge, who was appointed to serve as a special master overseeing the case, attach a dollar figure to sanctions previously imposed by the states Supreme Court against two Republican county commissioners and their attorney for allowing an outside firm to examine voting equipment after the 2020 election despite a court order prohibiting them to do so, according to the new filings.
The case, which dates back to 2021, involves actions taken by two Fulton County, Pennsylvania, commissioners Stuart Ulsh and Randy Bunch who sought to have Dominion voting equipment examined by a third-party after the 2020 election. Many of former President Donald Trumps allies falsely blamed Dominions software for his election defeat.
Thomas Carroll, an attorney who also served as a pro-Trump fake elector in 2020, was also sanctioned by the Pennsylvania Supreme Court for his conduct and along with the county and the county commissioners shall be jointly and severally responsible for paying nearly $1 million in fees to cover the Pennsylvania Secretary of States legal bills, according to the special masters latest report. The state Supreme Court will ultimately use the special master recommendations in awarding fees and costs resulting from the case.

This case has been going on literally forever, with this county, literally one of the smallest in population in the state, that voted 80% for 45, attempting to tamper with their Dominion Voting Systems machines. I.e., they had Wake TSI-related (the fraudster company that AZ got slimed by) contractors come in to "audit", were told to stand down, and then ignored the court 2 more times to have others come in and attempt to access their machines. The state decertified their machines and forced them to pay to rent new ones. And it just went on and on in court with sanctions and whatnot.

Pennsylvanias top election official has decertified the voting machines of a small southern county that disclosed that it had agreed to requests by local Republican lawmakers and allowed a software firm to inspect the machines as part of an audit after the 2020 presidential election.
The action by Acting Secretary of State Veronica Degraffenreid almost certainly means that Fulton County will have to buy new voting machines or, as it did in the May primary election, lease new ones.
Degraffenreid notified Fulton County officials in a letter Wednesday that the inspection by a firm with no knowledge or expertise in election technology violated state law.
I have no other choice but to decertify the use of Fulton Countys leased Dominion Democracy Suite 5.5A voting system last used in the November 2020 election, Degraffenreid wrote.
(snip)
They had to use their own County funds to lease new machines for the 2022 election.

(17,207 posts)... through their illegal action of having the machines "audited" should have to pay for the leased machines and the purchase of replacements, in addition to $1 million in legal fees.
BumRushDaShow
(140,915 posts)IIRC, they leased them.
Here in Philly, we use a different type of machine and I think we may have bought ours (and there are a lot - they store them in a warehouse).
And good luck with having them actually "pay" personally. The County supported that nonsense and that is who will probably pay.

(35,386 posts)Why should the state have to pay to replace new machines that Ulsh and Bunch destroyed?
Besides that, it was known in advance that this replacement cost must be met, if they followed through and sent the machines out to be "audited" in 2020. They went ahead and did it anyway. FAFO now it's time to pay up, assholes!
BumRushDaShow
(140,915 posts)The state isn't.
The County already had to lease new machines 3 years ago in order to have them for the 2022 election since their compromised machines were decertified back in 2021.

(140,915 posts)and obviously didn't "get the memo". We are watching Ghouliani go bankrupt and the Kracken lawyers pleading guilty for this crap while they are fighting tooth and nail to be "relevant".
Unfortunately I blame the courts here too (I have been following this for the past 3 years) as it was taking forever to get hearings scheduled and sanctions imposed, etc.

(16,156 posts)I doubt either of the 2 commissioners or the lawyer have 6 figures amounts laying around in bank or investment accounts.
It should be noted that the judgement is "joint and severaly" meaning that if one (or more) party can't pay or can't pay much, the remaining parties are responsible for paying the remaining balance of the judgement.
These jabronis already cost Fulton County taxpapers money when their voting machines were decertified and they had to lease/buy new ones.
