4 killed in CTA Blue Line train station shooting near Chicago

Source: ABC News

Four people were killed in a shooting early Monday on a Chicago Transit Authority train in Forest Park, Illinois, officials said.

The Forest Park Police Department received a 911 call about three people shot on a westbound train at the CTA Blue Line station in Forest Park, just west of Chicago, around 5:30 a.m. local time, according to a statement from police.

Authorities cleared the station, finding four victims. Three were pronounced dead on scene and the fourth was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood, where they died.

Forest Park police, along with CTA security, used video surveillance to help identify the offender. Then the Chicago Police Department located a suspect who matched the description on a CTA Pink Line train. The subject was taken into custody and a firearm was found, Forest Park police said.

I know I seem heartless but 4 grieving families added to a stack of millions due to US gun violence not likely to lead to any changes

People want gun rights? This is what you get.

Why have guns? Self defense or overthrow tyrannies. What other excuses have been offered? Do we figure either of those reasons was in play here? Self defense against 4 people, all now dead?

I would assert that is the same with almost all other gun violence in the US - not for self defense (the tyranny argument is too silly to be worth repeating).

Also, it's too bad the millions of grieving families of gun violence victims somehow don't have the political power to overcome the racism that is at the root of the need for gun ownership in this country.

Sympathy for those grieving doesn't seem to have accomplished anything towards preventing this happening again and again and again

12. Illinois ban on concealed carry on public transit is unconstitutional, federal judge rules

Four people filed a federal lawsuit in 2022 because they couldn't take a concealed firearm on the CTA or Metra. They claimed it violated their right to self-defense, and as a result they didn't use public transportation as much as they would have liked.

In a ruling on Friday, U.S. District Judge Iain Johnston ruled that Illinois' ban on carrying concealed weapons on public transit does not meet the U.S. Supreme Court standard set out in its June 2022 ruling in the case known as New York State Rifle and Pistol Association v. Bruen.

In the Bruen case, the Supreme Court struck down a New York law that placed strict restrictions on carrying concealed firearms in public for self defense, finding its requirement that applicants seeking a concealed carry license demonstrate a special need for self-defense is unconstitutional.

Under the Supreme Court's new standard for determining whether gun laws are within constitutional bounds, the government is required to show that the measure is consistent with the nation's historical tradition of gun regulation.

So everything was fine, for this judge, up to the moment the killer pulled the trigger.
