LIVE UPDATES: Casualties reported after school shooting at Apalachee High School; suspect in custody

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Omaha Steve (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Source: WSB-TV

The Barrow County Sheriff’s Office confirms there have been multiple casualties after a shooting at Apalachee High School Wednesday morning.

The sheriff could not confirm how many casualties or the victims’ conditions.

The incident unfolded around 10:20 a.m. when officers from multiple agencies and Fire/EMS personnel were dispatched to the high school after reports of an active shooter.

NewsChopper 2 was over the scene, where there were dozens of law enforcement and emergency vehicles surrounding the school. At least one air ambulance took a patient from the scene. Georgia State Patrol troopers as well as deputies from Barrow and Winder counties were responding.

This is in Georgia, by the way, approximately 50 miles northeast of Atlanta.

Another fucking school shooting.

How the hell many will it take before GQPers understand that not every damned idiot out there needs to have a gun?

to justify hard line absolute rule. The more that they can claim that violent crime is rampant, then the more they can also claim that their absolute rule is the necessary solution. Round up immigrants into camps for deportation, increase the number of offenses that get the death penalty (whether violent or not), return to mandatory Bible reading and prayer in public schools, make Christianity the national religion, and impose martial law against public protests.

He says that it won't be just documented and undocumented immigrants and migrants. They will kill off political opponents who are American citizens and anyone who disagrees with them.

I have been fearing that possibility because of the belligerence of their speech and threats, plus their actions like using gas and rubber bullets to clear the street for TSF's Bible photo OP in front of a church and the secretive kidnapping of protesters in Portland's BLM demonstrations, not to mention J6.

So when an expert like Nance verifies what I've been seeing and perceiving, I take it seriously. I also think that the extreme right which backs TSF will try to seize office if he loses and will use planned, organized violence to do it

I want to be wrong. I hope that I am. I want to see Harris and Walz win peacefully and take us in a better direction. But the fanatical belligerence of the right makes me feel like we are headed for a physical showdown.

I read on another post that when the shooting began, the teacher locked the door, and had all the kids get on the floor, as recommended. Then there was frantic knocking on the door, someone yelling "Let me in", and then more shooting.

In my training, you are not supposed to open the door under those circumstances. If those folks got shot, that poor class will have so much more trauma.

Very chilling. I pray I never have to make that decision.

I took pictures of him on the front porch this morning, as he headed out to catch the bus. This afternoon is his first home high school soccer game. He made JV, and he is so excited. All the kids, so excited about a new school year. It is so tragic that we go through this so many times every year - rinse and repeat. My older grandson had a shooter in his high school up in Washington State a couple years ago before he moved here to Oregon. He called me from the school and told me how terrified he was as he was sitting in the cafeteria and felt so vulnerable. He ran and ran until he could hide in a portable classroom. My husband, now retired, was a city manager for a nearby city here in Oregon. They had a shooter in that community's high school in 2014 and one student, a 9th grade soccer player, was killed. It was horrific. I met his mother at a service honoring the first responders. There were no words that could console her. I am so sick of guns.

Australia had one mass shooting and decided that was enough. They enacted strict gun laws that said you had to have a damned good reason to have a gun permit, and so called "self defense" wasn't a good reason. They've virtually eliminated gun violence, incidents are few and far between.

Why is the so called "right to bear arms (and let's not forget about a well regulated militia)" so much more important than our children's right to live?

That Democrats need 60%+ majorities in the house and senate and the presidency then things can change. Until voters stop electing republicans nothing will change. Candidates, etc need to explain this

Anything to avoid dirtying their precious and sacred (and misunderstood) Second Amendment.

Given all the surreal things we’ve seen since Columbine, it isn’t so surreal to think that someday providing a box of ammo to the teacher will be on school supply lists.

Gun laws are not the third rail they used to be politically — at least not as far as the Democratic Party is concerned. All the more reason to elect Kamala and Tim, and win back control of the House and get a bigger majority in the Senate. Purging the GOP scourge at all levels is the only way out of a lot of this shit, not just guns.

Finally, to all those “deeply saddened” pols who say it’s “too soon, but here’s some thoughts and prayers” — shove it.

Thanks Clarence Thomas...we did not have to post these signs years ago...spending precious resources on wasteful items because unelected men an women get to impose their ideological belifs on all. This high school is about 30 miles from my kiddo's high school. They played this school in football a couple weeks back. My kid is terrified to go back to school tomorrow because they don't want to get shot... and I can't blame them. I'm scared too. They shouldn't have to deal with this. What am I even supposed to say to that? This isn't right. Our kids deserve better than this.

Is attending school going to be similar to post 9/11 airport security?

The companies who supply airports with equipment will profit from this insanity?

High schools here in AZ have been buying metal detectors also for football games, etc.
