JD Vance says school shootings are a "fact of life"

Republican Vice Presidential nominee JD Vance said that school shootings were simply a fact of life after a shooting at a Georgia high school left four dead the 45th school shooting in the United States so far this year.
The comments, made at an Arizona rally on Thursday, come after Vice President Kamala Harris and her running mate Tim Walz called for enhanced gun control measures in their own campaign rallies following the shooting.
If these psychos are going to go after our kids weve got to be prepared for it, Vance said, bucking a question asked on gun control measures and instead championing efforts to spend more on school security, per the Associated Press. We dont have to like the reality that we live in, but it is the reality we live in. Weve got to deal with it.
Vance, who noted that the event was an awful tragedy, faced criticism in June for calling gun violence in schools a fake problem and called an attempt to ban bump stocks, used in the Las Vegas shooting that killed 60, a huge distraction.

These other parents are going through His only solution is more violence. This is their party now. Heres a new slogan for you, children over party. Of course they cant even tell you what children really are. They think any cluster of fertilized ovum is a child.

(46,895 posts)That never goes wrong ever. The real problem is that these gun free zones don't have enough guns. The answer is more guns.
Since Vance wants us to accept the unacceptable, let's win enough seats in a blue wave to change it.

Simple population math to remedy an inconvenient "fact of life"!

(154,009 posts)To hear JD Vance tell it, deadly school shootings, such as this week's tragedy in Georgia, are "a fact of life. The comments generated swift pushback.

But Republican politics in the Trump era has been a little different.
It was earlier this year, for example, when Donald Trump responded to a school shooting in Iowa by urging supporters to move forward, adding his belief that people have to get over it.
The former presidents comments came to mind after seeing new and related remarks from his 2024 running mate. The Associated Press reported:
Republican vice presidential nominee JD Vance said Thursday that he lamented that school shootings are a fact of life and argued the U.S. needs to harden security to prevent more carnage like the shooting this week that left four dead in Georgia.
.....But Vance nevertheless concluded, I dont like that this is a fact of life.

......In a statement issued soon after Vances public comments, the Harris/Walz campaign team issued a written statement that read, Yesterday, Vice President Harris said it doesnt have to be this way in response to another senseless school shooting. Donald Trump and JD Vance think school shootings are a fact of life and we have to get over it.
Vice President Harris and Governor Walz know we can take action to keep our children safe and keep guns out of the hands of criminals. Donald Trump and JD Vance will choose the NRA and gun lobby over our children. That is the choice in this election.

(and there are additional lyrics as well...)
Yeah, I know...poor taste...too soon...etc. But what is more disgusting than the complete lack of action after the Newtown shooting in 2012? That was when the point of no return was reached; the society truly hit rock bottom. It became clear that nothing would be done--even when 20 children and six school staff were murdered--all to placate the gun fetishists and their bought-off lackeys in Congress.

(3,583 posts)Every industrialized country has video games. A lot of them (e.g. Japan) have much more intense video game cultures than the US.
Our children see violence on television, games, movies, continually. Then there is that other thing which drives me nuts, they see all the violence, but on the news, they always blur out the reality, the results of that violence. The blood, the deaths are kept hidden because it might offend our delicate sensitivities. I dont think the reality ever really sinks in to anyones mind. Other nations are not having this problem, why are we the only ones? We are doing something wrong, whether we like it or not. What do we do that is different? It may not be the video games themselves, but something that goes along with it.

(6,895 posts)OK, so let's deal with it.
You can change reality if you want to; if you have the will to do what it takes; if you give a shit about all those dead and wounded people you can fix the problem.
Obviously, Just Dumb Vance is a big NO on all of this.
Anyone who thinks 60 dead people, killed by a person using a AR-15 with a bump stock, is just a "huge distraction" has a callous disregard for life. What the fuck is it we are being distracted from?
And he believes he's pro-life. F**k him.
