Newsom vetoes California Dream for All housing bill that would help undocumented immigrants

Source: KCRA News

SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
Gov. Gavin Newsom has vetoed a bill that would have allowed undocumented immigrants to apply for first-time homebuyer assistance through the California Dream for All program.

The governor has until Sept. 30 to either sign or veto the 991 bills that reached his desk. In a Friday news release, Assembly Bill 1840 was the only proposal that Newsom shut down.

The bill would have prohibited the California Housing Finance Authority's program from disqualifying an applicant based on their immigration status.

Even if the bill was signed into law, a spokesperson for the state's Department of Finance said the Dream For All program did not have any money to provide, which was addressed in Newsom's veto message.

Nonsense of helping them be a first time homebuyer is the way we lose elections.

Brown left our state with a surplus, and we now are running a deficit. No way would this pass if this is on the ballot, just like those wanting to repeal prop13 went down in flames.

While California is solid blue, it isn’t far left. We have had our share of republican Governors to demonstrate that.

That being said for a lot of reasons we should provide healthcare to undocumented people, prop 187 which I voted against, passed, and impeded undocumented people from getting healthcare, which was not only immoral, but opened the door to potential spread of contagious diseases because people are afraid to seek healthcare for fear they would be deported

as the migration pressure starts to grow. Not just here in the US, but everywhere that borders regions that are going to be increasingly uninhabitable.

A sane human response to a growing global catastrophe would find ways to integrate and accommodate as many refugees as possible.

Instead we are going to, here and elsewhere, take a very different approach.

When she becomes president, Kamala Harris, especially with a Democratic-controlled U.S. Congress (both chambers), will provide that sane human response you mentioned.

I get it that Democratic politicians believe they are vulnerable on immigration. But I'd like to know when our party is going to stop retreating whenever the going gets tough.

So we pass lots of pro undocumented measures...

That's my take on it. Whenever there is a controversial law like this..it's championed by a foreign born lawmaker or 1st gen..from the community the law will help.

It makes it appear Calif is far left

Newsom vetoes California Dream for All housing bill that would help undocumented immigrants

SACRAMENTO, Calif. —
Gov. Gavin Newsom has vetoed a bill that would have allowed undocumented immigrants to apply for first-time home-buyer assistance through the California program.

Behind this ruling is the fact that rents and mortgages are un-affordable for all but the rich oligarchy. Because foreign buyers are buying property and doubling the cost of rents and purchases.

Foreign countries started this money fraud and Americans are right behind.
