Trump's voter turnout operation in swing states is too small, GOP worries

Source: The Guardian

Republican officials are raising the alarm that Donald Trump’s campaign has invested far fewer resources for its voter turnout operation in battleground states than previous presidential election races, and attempts to bridge the gap with political action committees have come too late.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) once envisioned an extensive field operation for the 2024 election, including having about 90 staffers in the must-win state of Pennsylvania.

But the Trump campaign scrapped those plans when it took over the RNC in March, redirecting the focus on field operations to combating supposed voter fraud and pursuing a twin voter turnout strategy of relying on several political action committees and ardent Trump volunteers.

The result has been that the Trump campaign has put fewer resources into its ground game in battleground states, according to people familiar with the matter – and Republican officials have derisively said the Trump operation is more comparable in size to a midterm cycle than a presidential.

1. Of course it is. For him it isn't about turnout, it's about overturning.

His only interest is in setting the stage to instigate violence against election workers if counts are in Harris's favor.

It's not about turnout, it's about overturning.

He declared this himself.

Paid canvassers may not have a horse in the race or care about the outcome so are more likely to fraudulently check off the boxes and get paid instead of actually knocking on the doors.

It is also possibly indicative of their overall enthusiasm. If they are not able to get people to volunteer to canvass, that sentiment is probably widespread among his larger group of support.

Their message to Trump with the immunity ruling was pretty clear that they’re supporting him.

legal bills, it's the highest percentage of donations ever squandered. It's probably not even close.

I'm wondering if a lot of their voter suppression plans bomb or get ratted out because people aren't getting paid?

I said to Charlie and I said to Michael: Listen, we don’t need votes. We got more votes than anybody’s ever had. We need to watch the vote. We need to guard the vote. We need to stop the steal. We don’t need votes. We have to stop — focus, don’t worry about votes. We’ve got all the votes. I was in Florida yesterday — every house has a Trump sign. Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump. We have to guard the vote

He went on to call mail-in ballots “treacherous” and ballot drop boxes “horrible.”

And Trump wasn’t done there. During a panel discussion hosted by a Black pastor in Detroit, Trump claimed nearly unanimous support from the heads of historically Black colleges and universities:

I think all of them are voting for Trump ... I’d say 99% of them. And if they aren’t — I don’t know what the hell the other side did — but we’ll start an investigation or something, OK?

These claims are two branches of the same conspiratorial tree.
