Vice President Kamala Harris has issued a stark warning to businesses as people across Florida prepare for Hurricane Milton to make landfall.
"Let us all be clear: Americans impacted by a crisis should never be ripped off," Harris said in a statement. "I have seen firsthand the devastating impact of price gouging during an emergency."
"Those evacuating before Hurricane Milton or recovering from Hurricane Helene should not be subject to illegal price gouging or fraud at the pump, airport, or hotel counter," Harris continued."Any company or individual that tries to exploit Americans in an emergency should know that the Administration is monitoring for allegations of fraud and price gouging and will hold those taking advantage of the situation accountable."
Harris' warning comes as millions of people in Florida prepare for the wrath of Hurricane Milton, which is currently expected to make landfall sometime late Wednesday as a Category 3 or Category 4 storm. Originally expected to make landfall near Tampa, the storms trajectory made a dramatic shift overnight and is now forecast to hit south of Sarasota.

(25,483 posts)BRDS have you seen the Eric T. Interview? It's really something. They're flooding the airwaves with misinformation. All hands on deck style.

(25,483 posts)I just found this:
By Ted Johnson
E.W. Scripps stock (NASDAQ:SSP) jumped 25% Friday as the company planned heavy layoffs in its news division.
Scripps News will cut more than 200 positions and back off from national news programming amid a tough advertising environment, it said in an internal memo according to media reports.
That includes Scripps News withdrawing from over-the-air broadcasts into streaming and digital platforms, and leaving behind a smaller team of about 50 staffers to serve local stations with news.
Amidst an already difficult linear television advertising marketplace, many brands and agencies have decided that advertising around national news is just too risky for them given the polarized nature of this country, no matter the accolades and credentials a news organization like Scripps receives for its objectivity," CEO Adam Symson said in the memo, according to Deadline Hollywood.

(142,233 posts)with the literal hundreds of not just cable channels, but the digital OTA channels (e.g., the ".1" and ".2", etc. channels that came when we switched from analog to digital).
It's probably worse with the competition between "streaming channels" for news and business reports etc, as there are so many out there that it would take a lot to "cut through the noise". But they do have an old "brand name" so we'll see.

In spite of the visual impressions of the campaign, election forecasters have moved Trump up to where they now show the race probability as 53-47 Harris, which is the lowest it has been for Harris since mid-August. What has Trump done to improve his chances? Well, there is the story of black Haitian legal immigrants eating people's cats and dogs in Ohio, never mind the story being false. And polling showing Independents now showing Harris with a 16 point lead and also leading in suburban neighborhoods. Photo's also show Trump speaking to half-empty halls on the campaign trail. So, where are all of these votes for Trump coming from? Oh, Trump finalized that he is not debating Harris again, even on Fox News.
Visually, everything looks to be falling apart for Trump while he is also surging? Or, am I in denial? I know for certain I am voting and it will be for Harris.
