Google to block election ads after polls close on Election Day

Source: The Hill

10/17/24 3:33 PM ET

Google announced it will block ads about the general election on Nov. 5 after the last polls close.

“As we’ve done in the past, we will temporarily pause ads related to U.S. elections after the last polls close on November 5,” Google spokesperson Michael Aciman told The Hill. “We’re implementing this policy out of an abundance of caution and to limit the potential for confusion, given the likelihood that votes will continue to be counted after Election Day.”

This will block U.S. election ads, as well as ads that refer to U.S. elections, their processes or outcomes. Google said this is a temporary measure and that it plans to notify advertisers when the policy is lifted.

Other companies, like Meta, also plan to block political and social ads during the last week of voting. During the pause, Google will continue to run public information campaign ads created by state or federal government agencies in an effort to curb misinformation.

against Klan revolts in the South. (I think I've got that info right, but it's been 12 hours since I read it.)

What's the likelihood President Biden will be called upon to make that decision again? I doubt there will be more revolts in Washington, but swing states yes, even Red States as a form of protest, which could present the problem of how such action will not be well-received in say Texas or Florida.

I'm typing better and thus my replies are longer and more of them. Had to put new PC into service. Old one on the recycle pile.

All political and election ads cease after the polls close on Election Day. This is no different. It's just the end of election season.

After the election heat cools down, expect Youtube to see the election ads that aired during election season.

It is illegal for them to campaign on election day near polling places.
