General Jim Mattis Backs Mark Milley Warning That Trump Is the 'Most Dangerous Threat Ever'

Journalist Bob Woodward revealed that former Secretary of Defense Jim Mattis seconded his argument that former President Donald Trump is a dangerous threat to the country. Mattis worked briefly in the Trump administration before resigning in 2018 amid a series of foreign policy disagreements with Trump.
Hes since occasionally criticized his former boss, including after the Jan. 6 Capitol riot and amid the 2020 Black Lives Matter protests. Speaking to The Bulwark Podcast this week, Woodward said he recently got an email from Mattis.
Tim Miller writes:
In an interview on The Bulwark Podcast on Thursday, Woodward said he recently received an email from Mattis, who served under Trump before resigning in protest. In the email, Mattis seconded the assessment offered by Gen. Mark Milley, the former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, whom Woodward quotes as calling Trump the most dangerous person ever.
In his book, Woodward recounts being approached by Milley at a 2023 gathering at the Willard Hotel in Washington, D.C., during which Milley pleaded with him to stop Trump. Milley went on to call Trump, under whom he also served, fascist to the core!

(23,127 posts)When normally apolitical military generals come together in agreement that a former president and current party candidate is the Most Dangerous Threat Ever and there's a possibility that such a candidate might return to office to carry out atrocities against the American people and abandon our allies, it tends to make me a little tense.

I think separate from the campaign is better.

(8,821 posts)One led the attack on Lafyette Park in camo while military assets were being used against US Citizens. The other was making millions trading on his military background with fraud companies and defense contractors. Time for a Profile in Courage. Up to now, they have been trading the good for the bad.

(17,672 posts)... he tagged along with his C-in-C, probably because he was ordered to. It not being an unlawful order, he had no excuse to refuse. The camo, though, was stupid and silly, which he has admitted since. Normally, I don't tolerate post-facto protestations of innocence, but in this case I make an exception. The good general might well have not known what an idiot he was dealing with at the time.
I'm more skeptical of Gen Mattis, who seems to have had little problem with DJT on domestic issues, even thought his economic policies were good. Then again, generals are not paid to be economists, and capacity in one field is no guarantee of capacity in another.

(8,821 posts)But in the walk from the White House to St Johns president trump was in the lead followed by General Milley(in a camo battle kit) and Attorney General Barr. He was in front of the White House Chief of Staff and the Secretary of Defense, Princess Ivanka and Jarred along with a host of administration asshats. At that time, he saw it as his position to lead and he was out front.
I am happy that upon reflection, he realized his mistake. He did not own it by resignation, but at least he did publicly note his mistake. He with his two Ivy school degrees should have known better.
You are correct though, he did not lead the attack, he led in the March to the photo op with the upside down Bible.

(42,717 posts)they will regret it because the death and pain that will happen when people start starving to death on the streets because TRUMP IS SELFISH AND DOESN'T GIVE A SHIT ABOUT ANYONE! HE will have his own personal army, and for all we know, he is just crazy enough to use a NUKE on California, or any other state he doesn't care for, HE will be worse than HITLER, because Trump doesn't want to conquer any other nation, he is too lazy to deal with that, He will escape all the jail time he has wracked up because no one will be able to hold him responsible. No one!
People remember how he handled the pandemic, this time he will only save his family and no one else. Oh Yes he will ship back all people of color off to another nation, or rather be lazy and have them all killed in a concentration camp perhaps with ovens like the Nazis used, or poison gas and having mass burials outside the camps. He will shut down the southern border for good and have machine guns mow down every alien that tries to get in, He won't separate families, but have them all killed together and no one can stop him.
No country will threaten the USA, because of Nuclear bombs will be used in any way he wishes. Putin and XI Ping may become buddies of Trump, until they have him killed and someone from their country takes over America... if TRUMP IS ELECTED... I WON'T WANT to live in this world, and will in the Japanese tradition take my own life. Who wants to live in HELL on Earth, and believe me all those people who voted for TRUMP will regret it. When their family member is hanging by the highway for all to see... another death out of millions of deaths that will follow.
