GOP's Fred Upton backs Kamala Harris' presidential campaign

West Michigan Republican and former U.S. Rep. Fred Upton is endorsing Vice President Kamala Harris' 2024 bid for the White House, saying his party's nominee, former President Donald Trump, is divisive, unhinged and has "not changed his colors."

"Watching Trump day after day, he's ignored the advice of many senior, respected Republicans to stay on the issues," Upton told The Detroit News.

"Instead, he's still talking about the election being stolen, trashing women left and right. He's just totally unhinged. We don't need this chaos. We need to move forward, and that's why I'm where I am."

Upton of St. Joseph, who served 36 years in the U.S. House, is the highest profile Republican in Michigan to publicly back the Democratic presidential nominee. He often has split his ticket, but this year was his first time voting for a Democrat for president, which he already did by absentee ballot, he said.

I’m actually surprised this chickenshit FINALLY has spoken out against TSF. While he did vote to impeach back when still in the House, all this time (until now) he has declined to speak out publicly against trump.

So finally he announces his opposition to TSF, in the mildest way he can manage. Crawl back under your rock, Fred, you spineless wimp!

He is from a solid red area and for him to come out for Harris is really good news.
And he will bring even more GOP voters with him. Hell, Susan Ford from Western
Michigan is out for Harris now.

He was my Congressman for a long time, and has a career full of sidestepping taking positions on controversial issues. Yes it’s nice that he has come out in favor of Harris, but I sincerely doubt that will sway any voters in this district.
And he’s still a spineless wimp.

that traditional conservative repubs have been kicked out of the MAGA party and not welcomed. Will it help? I don't know. Anyone who is not a MAGA is a RINO to them. If only folks like him would have stood up sooner.
