McConnell says 'MAGA movement is completely wrong' and Reagan 'wouldn't recognize' Trump's GOP

Source: CNN Politics

Updated 8:42 PM EDT, Wed October 23, 2024

CNN — Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell delivered a scathing assessment of the modern Republican Party in an upcoming biography, saying the “MAGA movement is completely wrong” and that Ronald Reagan “wouldn’t recognize” the party today.

“I think Trump was the biggest factor in changing the Republican Party from what Ronald Reagan viewed and he wouldn’t recognize today,” McConnell told the Associated Press’ Michael Tackett for the upcoming biography “The Price of Power” obtained by CNN ahead of its release.

McConnell added that the former president has “done a lot of damage to our party’s image and our ability to compete.”

“Trump is appealing to people who haven’t been as successful as other people and providing an excuse for that, that these more successful people have somehow been cheated, and you don’t deserve to think of yourself as less successful because things haven’t been fair,” he said. Some of McConnell’s strongest comments were focused on Trump’s behavior after he lost the election in 2020, calling him “erratic.”

He doesn't care. His evil work is done in allowing the rot of 45 to consume everything in this country, AND to infest the SCOTUS (and much of the current federal judiciary). He's stepping down from the leadership at the end of this current Congressional session and still has 2 years left for his term (and will probably not run again).

booth they will vote for Kamala Harris.

Why do I say this? A friend of mine lives in the same neighborhood as a Democratic politician, he knows her well, he has helped on her campaigns, etc. He was walking his dog, saw her and stopped to talk to her. He told her he could not understand how so many women seem to want to vote for trump, she explained what many of us have been feeling. Democrats are not voicing their choice of candidate, which is obviously Kamala Harris, one could say Democrats are in the political closet because most are being cautious of the violence from the MAGA crowd, and it is the same with many women, their husbands are MAGAts, they don't want conflict, but once they are in the voting booth they will cast their vote for Harris/Walz, she told him she knows a lot of women who have expressed that feeling to her in private.

I have always been an optimist, I became a realist in 2016, I felt the buffoon was going to win, he won and I became the optimist back after that, and this time around I am very optimistic, I feel Kamala Harris will not only win, but I feel she is going to crash it. We are going to get rid of a lot of the republican filth in both houses, and we will have the 1st woman President.

Trump succeeded because he appealed to the extremist in the party. i.e. The Heritage Foundation and all the organizations that appealed to the Evangelicals and their extreme agenda. And you know who also delivered an important objective to their end? McConnell. What he did with the Supreme Court, denying Obama the chance to nominate a Supreme Court Justice is what put us on this horrible path.

Worked great until those easily lead idiots eventually became such a majority of the party they were able to nominate enough non-critical thinking fearful candidates that actually believed the lies. Then the old GOP, instead of reassessing itself, went all in stupidly believing they could handle a few idiots in power as long as they could still set the legislative agenda and pack the courts. Perfect set up for an authoritarian asshole like Trump.

Reagan was an extremely talented conman, and he actually was bright and sophisticated (unlike Trump who has always been sort of slimy). Unfortunately, Reagan is also the one who really invited religion into the political sphere in a big way with Jerry Falwell’s "Moral Majority." It's been downhill since then. And it probably started earlier than that, but this is what has really stood out to me in my lifetime.
