Advanced ballot matching technology thwarts fraud scheme in Colorado, officials say

Election officials in Colorado are crediting advanced ballot matching technology for snuffing out a scheme to fraudulently cast as many as a dozen ballots in the upcoming presidential election.
At least a dozen voters in Mesa County, Colorado, had their ballots stolen and fraudulently filled out without them knowing, Secretary of State Jena Griswold announced on Thursday.
"On Tuesday, October 23, the Department of State learned that at least 12 ballots appear to have been intercepted before reaching voters," Griswold said in a statement. "Those ballots were voted and then returned to the Mesa County Clerk and Recorder via USPS mailboxes."
After the stolen mail ballots were returned to the clerk's office, the state's voter signature verification system flagged discrepancies with the signatures on some of the ballots. When election officials reached out to the voters to offer them a chance to "cure" the issue, the voters informed the officials that they hadn't voted. Three of the stolen ballots that passed the signature verification process were successfully cast.

(35,702 posts)When someone other than YOU removes mail from your mailbox, they are breaking federal laws. When someone other than a USPS employee puts mail into your mailbox, they are breaking federal laws.
Whoever did this must be caught, and I believe they will be caught. They're in a world of shit.

(2,269 posts)Here in Montana, there is a way to check on your registration status and whether your absentee ballot has been received and counted.
It's at: https://votemt.gov/, but then you have to click on the red "Montana Elections Division" in the top right corner and then the "Vote Ready" button to be able to check on your personal voting information.
I'm sure all states must have a similar website. I urge all DUers to check on the status of their voter registration and on their ballots if they have voted absentee (or if they HAVEN'T voted absentee, too, to make sure no one voted in their place!).

(6,009 posts)... Ballot request received, ballot sent, voted ballot received, voted ballot counted. I'm sure this can be tracked on a web site also, but I've never had to.

(23,283 posts)People who have the outdoor at the end of the driveway mailbox. My mother in law got a check stolen from hers and they cashed it. Luckily she called the payee who after informing them and they wired the money directly to her bank account. It was about $50.
Someone also stole a check she wrote and put in her mailbox to be picked up. They changed a $35 dollar check to $3500 luckily her bank caught it. Now she goes directly to the post office and she got her voting ballot , filled it out and her daughter took her directly to the certified drop box that is under camera surveillance.

(16,331 posts)The next town over from where I live has two drop boxes for people to drop off their mail. I read where somebody had found a way to get the mail out of the box, so next time I was over that way they had their mailboxes all taped up so no one could use them. My township has a very similar drop box for dropping off absentee ballots and I have always thought, what can keep someone from finding a way to do the same thing to ballots?
I never followed up to hear if they ever caught the person/people who took mail out of the mailboxes.
