Donald Trump Should Concede If He Loses, Supporters Say

Source: Newsweek

Published Oct 27, 2024 at 5:00 AM EDT

A large number of Republican voters want Donald Trump to concede if he loses next month's presidential election to Kamala Harris, according to a new poll conducted exclusively for Newsweek.

The Redfield & Wilton Strategies survey found 44 percent of eligible voters who have voted, or plan to vote, for Trump believe he should "publicly concede defeat to Kamala Harris" if defeated on November 5, compared to 34 percent who don't think he should and 21 percent who answered "don't know." By contrast, 65 percent of those who either have backed, or plan to back, Harris said Trump should concede defeat if beaten, compared with 21 percent who disagreed and 14 percent who were unsure.

The 2020 presidential election was won by Joe Biden, but Trump is continuing to insist it was stolen from him by fraud despite this claim being rejected repeatedly in court and by independent election experts. On January 6, 2021, hundreds of Trump supporters stormed Congress in a bid to block the certification of Biden's election victory, sparking violence that saw one person shot dead by police and dozens of officers injured.

Overall, the Redfield and Wilton Strategies poll found that 51 percent of eligible voters believe Trump should publicly concede if beaten in the presidential election, compared with 30 percent who disagree and 19 percent who said they don't know.

Are you kidding me!? The headline ignores that a majority of Trump voters say Trump should refuse, or are potentially ok if Trump refuses, to concede an election they know he's lost!!

It should be -- 55% of Trump voters are unsure or say Trump should refuse a Harris victory!

Think. Again.

I do not think Russia has ever stopped wanting the destruction of the U.S. and really the WW2 Allied forces since the end of the war when they did not get everything. Stalin was pissed at the Allies just like Mao was. They still are.

They conned us for a long time after Yeltsin but Russia is still Stalin and China is still Mao.

They want the system where the serfs have a voice that is the same as the oligarchs voice destroyed.

They are close..

However, I definitely want him to at least. Shut. The. Fuck. Up. And go the hell away. But with the size of his ego, and with his narcissism, he is totally incapable of doing so.

Logged in just to recommend this. I think expecting him to concede is stupid on our part. He will never do that and I don't care what he thinks about anything. If we can relegate him to the dustbin of history, that will be our just reward.

Don't want to get ahead of ourselves but... The question will be how the media treats him post election. Is there any reason to continue "Trump Says"? I hope they will move the heck on. It just doesn't matter what he thinks. If right wing media continues that bull shit, they deserve him lurking around for years to come. I think many of them want to move on. I think many wanted to move on before - but they were cowards.

The weirdest part of GOP post election analysis is they don't make corrections. They have no interest in the middle class and continue Trumps false brand of populism. Also.. their "bench" is shit. There is nobody in the wings to take the mantle. It is not that Tump is so great- it is just his history of playing the boss on TV for decades. I would not be surprised if they dug up another celebrity to carry on that ploy to tap his base.

I downloaded the data file from Redfield & Wilton Strategies, but don't see any questions about whether anyone should concede.

Here's the Redfield & Wilton Strategies page where they post their data:
https://redfieldandwiltonstrategies.com/media-research/

Here's the data download for the survey in that Newsweek article (XLSX speadsheet format):
https://redfieldandwiltonstrategies.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/10/US-Presidential-Election-National-Voting-Intention-21-October-2024.xlsx

I'm pretty curious why so many Democrats would say Trump shouldn't concede and I'd like to see how the question was phrased.
