Hochul says Trump's Madison Square Garden rally is a 'white flag of surrender'

New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) said she thinks the Madison Square Garden rally former President Trump is hosting Sunday is a white flag of surrender.
I think hes waving the white flag of surrender, Hochul said Sunday on MSNBCs The Weekend. Hes coming back to a city that he knows well. Hes comfortable here. Maybe hed like to sleep in his own bed.
Hochul contrasted Trumps rally with Vice President Harriss itinerary. Shes campaigning in the critical battleground state of Pennsylvania. Trump will be going to his known, familiar environment, but it wont serve him on the campaign trail, Hochul argued.
Hes giving up, because why else would you come to New York City? You are not going to find undecided voters walking the streets of Manhattan today.

Who seriously doubts that Jabba-the-Trump was deliberately trying to recreate the 1939 Nazi Bund rally?
Least of all - a New Yorker who should know better.

(303 posts)What is repeated often gets rewarded. This Maga cult is a self-flagellating, self-aggrandizing, ignorant group of dangerous bigots who despise women and people of color and anyone who would dare to embrace our humanity. They are responsible for the sense of dread and depression that fills the atmosphere around us all.

(6,285 posts)Voices of HATE from members of an imploding cult.
Unbridled, desperate.
Voices of frustrated old white men who promised themselves unachievable levels of power and influence.
It will only serve to spread the disgust NY feels towards Trump and his followers to the rest of the country.

This won't play well in Preoria.

(2,160 posts)I read somewhere that hes hoping to incite violence (again) by riling up his most ardent supporters there tonight.
Theyre going to leave that rally absolutely convinced that hes going to win, and when he doesnt, theyre going to be out for blood.
The rest of the world, meanwhile, is watching in horror at that disgusting display of hatred.

(2,323 posts)Part of the reason that he can do what he does is that most people don't really know what the Nazis were. World War II was eighty years ago (hell, Vietnam was sixty). For too many people alive today, a Nazi is just a particularly repellent form of cosplay.

(383 posts)I have not seen any reports on the crowd size, but I wonder if his people booked him there with the thought of playing to a packed house, and one that might have emotional value to Trump.
The thing about New York is that it has so many people that even if only a tiny fraction care enough about Trump to come to the event it might still be enough to fill the arena.
That and it is easy for the media to get there and cover it. As others have pointed out, he was not just playing to the Manhattan crowd, but the whole country via the media. More coverage than if he had made the same speech in Harrisburg or Erie. Which, knowing him, he probably has.
I would love if this was his last hurrah. It would make me very happy. But I somehow doubt that will be the case.
Get out the vote!
