AOC mocks Trump with McDonald's E. coli conspiracy as she games with Tim Walz on Twitch

Source: The Independent

Tim Walz teamed up with Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez for a Sunday campaign appearance on Twitch as they played video games and the New York Democrat promoted a McDonald’s conspiracy involving Donald Trump.

AOC began the stream with a tour of her own farm in the mega-popular indie game Stardew Valley before being joined by Walz shortly after. The stream was part of the Democrat’s effort to turn out younger voters while peeling young men, in particular, away from the former president.

Walz and the New York congresswoman played a quick quarter of Madden 2025 before pivoting to a straight interview format. The two talked policy issues such as housing and abortion rights, and discussed topics including the challenges and opportunities faced when one legislates with a razor-thin majority.

They also tore into both Donald Trump and JD Vance for recent campaign appearances by the pair, including Trump’s spiritual journey to a McDonald’s franchise where the ex-president used the fryers and other machines, had an apron put on him and stuck his head out the drive-thru to talk to the media.

1. AOC needs to be damned careful about using this 11 state E. coli outbreak in such a way...

It is now linked to an onion grower, albeit not clear how the contamination occurred (from the fields possibly through water contamination, human picker contamination, livestock?) or from processing contamination, but it is going to bankrupt this local grower while CDC and others work to identify the route of contamination to stop it. At the same time beef producers and the meat processors have already taken a tremendous hit from obvious speculation.

This is not funny. E. coli kills and those investigating are working as quickly as is possible to identify/stop the source from recurring. CDC--the same agency, along with FDA/USDA food safety components that Trump was to dismantle.

2. One of the biggest characterizations of Democrats by both the GOP and ALL of the media

is that we are "weak" and "feeble" with no backbone. There is an old saying about needing to "break an egg to make an omelet" and I think that is what is happening here. No more turning the other cheek as they say.

When I have gathered these news stories, I have noted a literal universal use of words and terms by the media to describe Democrats and made what I call the media's "Weasel Word Style Guide" -

jittery
concerned
worried
frantic
anxious
anxiety
nervous
fearful
afraid
fret
doubtful
wary
troubled
troubling
distressed
panic
struggles
struggling
defensive
girding
agonizing
sweat
warning signs
sounding alarm

These terms rarely appear in articles about the GOP and if they do, I often post them if they are in a news story.

As a counter to the above nonsense, what AOC is doing is to fight the stereotype that has been promoted by the right and their corporate media, and is ingrained in the consciousness - "Democrats will not fight because they pull punches and will back down".

I.e., showing that we know their game, yes we have a spine and can "go low", but we ALSO have a strong foundation of what reality is, and what is right.

4. She CANNOT responsibly use public health as her focus to do so. That is not defensible.

One person has died already. This is not a punchline nor a cause to show how "Dems are tough" unless her comments are around the competence of CDC and collaborating public health agencies under Democratic governance as compared to Trump or R's. sigh...

5. I think the public "knows"

and they also know who ALWAYS comes in to HELP and "fix" the problems, economic or healthwise, that the GOP creates every time they are in office.

But we need to stop knee-jerk reacting every time we find a way to "hit back" and mock them. THAT is why we have such a deficit of male voters who "haven't got the memo", and that then forces the type of INSANE campaign schedule that Harris has had to endure, to scrape up all the REST of the voters.

THAT is the reality.

Leave everything on the field.

6. I repeat. It is beyond irresponsible to use the public health to do so. I see the aftermath.

And I am not laughing when a child comes in dying from Hemolytic Uremic Syndrome and kidney failure fromr E. coli O157:H7 contamination or an elderly person with Listeriosis. It IS NOT A JOKE.

7. I have to agree with you

Walz and AOC were wrong to do that.

Escherichia coli (E. coli) is bacteria found in the intestines of humans and animals. Some types, like E. coli O157:H7, can produce powerful toxins that can cause severe and potentially deadly illness. Symptoms can include bloody diarrhea, severe stomach cramps and vomiting.

We had to make a lot of changes in the orchard when that new deadly strain of E. coli first appeared. No more unpasteurized cider, no more harvesting of "drops" (fruit that has fallen to the ground) for juice, to name two examples. Hundreds of small family farms here took this threat to public health very seriously, despite the fact that the necessary changes to protect public health meant a substantial loss of income.
