DNC projects message tying Trump to Hitler on Madison Square Garden during rally

The Democratic National Committee is projecting digital messages on Madison Square Garden's exterior during former President Donald Trump's campaign rally on Sunday about recent reports that he once praised Adolf Hitler and his generals and that cast him as unhinged.
"Trump praised Hitler," one of five planned projections from the DNC says, referring to Trump's longest-serving chief-of-staff, four-star Marine Corps. Gen. John Kelly, telling The Atlantic this week that Trump had admirable things to say about the German dictator. Trump says he "never said it," and campaign aides have denied Kelly's accounts.
Sunday marks the first time the DNC is projecting counterprogramming onto a building while Trump will be inside it, but it's far from the first time Democrats have deployed the technique. The DNC put projections on Trump Tower in New York City on the night of the vice presidential debate and on Chicago's Trump International Hotel and Tower during the Democratic National Convention in August.

This time, the stunt comes as some Democrats make comparisons to a 1939 rally supporting Hitler and the Nazi party at a previous reiteration of Madison Square Garden ahead of World War II. Billed as a "Pro American Rally," the February 1939 event was organized by German American Bund, an pro-Hitler organization, attended by more than 20,000 people and saw an even larger number of counter-protesters outside.

(1 post)My dear partner asked, if you always compare someone to one of the worst people to ever walk the planet, then after a while don't people
just become numb to the comparison?
What do you call Trump after?
Hitler caused the death of 50 million people along with Mussolini and the Emperor of Japan.

(62,073 posts)... if we aren't careful, we begin to trivialize the monsters. But by his actions and admitted and expressed hopes and dreams, he is a monster in training - he looks forward to executing political adversaries, immigrants, deporting and relocating populations. He expresses admiration for Hitler and his generals and that does not separate those admired from their heinous lives and histories.
We are trying to cut him off before he gets to enact the monstrous programs he envisions.

(4,215 posts)could make Hitler look like an amateur at being an evil villain. Trump is saying, "Adolf, hold my beer."
As horrifying as Hitler was, he affected a relatively small segment of the human population. Significant, but relatively small compared to if he had started with a planet that is on fire and said that he wanted it to burn faster. The economy wasn't global yet. Reactions were delayed by space and time, not transmitted in seconds electronically. Multi-national corporations didn't hold the same percentage of the wealth as they do now, and "multi" didn't mean as many as it does now.
For future generations, however many there will be, Trump could replace Hitler as the prototype of the evil villain.
