Republican U.S. Rep. Don Bacon has defeated Democratic challenger Tony Vargas to earn a fifth term representing Nebraska in the 2nd Congressional District.
The Associated Press officially called the race Friday evening after the latest vote tallies, which included the counting of the final early ballots in Douglas County, left Bacon with a lead of 7,250 votes.
Minutes after AP called the race, Vargas issued a statement conceding the race, thanking his supporters.
This campaign has always been about giving a voice to working families and uniting our community, said Vargas, a state senator. Throughout my career, Ive worked across the aisle to help parents, seniors, and students, and I will continue that fight.
