President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris observed Veterans Day at Arlington National Cemetery on Monday in what was their first appearance together since last weeks election.
The two participated in a full honor wreath-laying ceremony at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier before Biden made remarks at the Memorial Amphitheater.
This is the last time I will stand here at Arlington as commander in chief, Biden said. It's been the greatest honor of my life to lead you, to serve you, to care for you, to defend you, just as you defended us.
Biden, who began by quoting President Abraham Lincoln, said this is the moment to "come together as a nation." "The world is dependent on each of you and all of us, all of you, to keep honoring the women and the men and the families of borne, the battle," he said. "To keep protecting everything they fought for. To keep striving to heal our nation's wounds. To keep perfecting our union."

(120,813 posts)that he hasn't been able yet to wrap his head around how far we've fallen. He doesn't think we'll succumb because he still thinks "we're better than that," not having grokked to the fact that we're not. Maybe he never will, and I kind of hope he never does and can hold onto that optimism for the time he has left.

(4,964 posts)the people that tsf is putting in his cabinet, starting with Steven Miller. Further, half the country voted for tsf. What concrete proof does Biden have to show that "we're better than that."' I guess my point is, I am tired of being gaslighted and I want the dem. leadership to stop it.

(14,079 posts)I'm sorry, but NO.
The days of coming together and politics of statesman are over. I wish you could see that and take some drastic measures before they move in. I wish you could tap into that scrappy scranton fighter one last time for our sake, and leave them a nice FUCK YOU as you walk out the door.
Issue some Exec Orders to preserve the EPA, Dept of ED, Social Security... SOMETHING...
But I am just a pissed off citizen. You are the one who has "immunity" for the next couple months....USE it!

(456 posts)... groked the "fact" that he was dealing with Fascists and Nazis. Biden was always too busy crying at funerals and consoling people and hand holding instead of fighting the Fascists and the Nazis here on our own soil. Biden never understood that you cannot appease a Fascist nor a Nazi nor can you "unify" the country be giving in to them or to their political demands.

I get that he feels he has to say this. But it is completely fucking tone deaf and useless. Why should we? These people are fucking monsters.
