Schumer invites McCormick, Gallego to Senate orientation
Source: The Hill
Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) has invited Pennsylvania Republican David McCormick and Arizona Sen.-elect Ruben Gallego (D) to the Senate orientation this week after initially not extending an invitation to either due to uncounted ballots in both races.
Schumers decision to exclude McCormick was contentious because The Associated Press had declared him the winner in the Pennsylvania Senate race days ago. Republican strategists argued that Sen. Bob Casey (D-Pa.) had no viable path to erasing his opponents 35,000-vote advantage.
...snip...
Schumer had come under growing pressure since Sunday to invite both McCormick and Gallego to the orientation.
Sen. Kyrsten Sinema (I-Ariz.) noted in a post on the social platform X that she attended her Senate orientation in 2018 even though her race wasnt called for nearly a week.

Both sides were acting childishly... I suppose it's better this way.

(27,696 posts)There are enough votes outstanding to cut the gap into the recount range (though the most recent ballots have gone the other way)... but recounts shift hundreds of votes... not tens of thousands.

(25,221 posts)Tell me this isn't another Bush v Gore where they stopped counting the ballots. I bet after McCormick goes through orientation Magats will ask the Supreme Court to stop the count in Pa.
What about a recount if the election is close? Will the SC forbid that also?
What does Marc Elias say? I will have to watch Nicolle today to find out these answers. Elias is usually on Nicolle on Wednesdays, but, close enough.
