Republicans will retain House majority, CNN projects, completing GOP's dominance of Washington

Source: CNN

Republicans have secured their monopoly on power in Donald Trump’s new Washington, retaining their majority in the House of Representatives, CNN projected Wednesday, ushering in a dramatic new era of right-wing populist rule.

The GOP’s control of both chambers of Congress – won after Republicans were projected to hold two House seats in California and Arizona – means that the president-elect will have a path to enact an agenda that could profoundly change America, including sweeping tax cuts, hardline immigration enforcement and a transformation of domestic and foreign policy.

What the hell happened to sanity in this country? I look left, I look right and I have to stifle my words and thoughts--because neither of them are civil nor conducive to extending "benefit-of-the-doubt."

7. In NC, a Republican super-majority in the state legislature gerrymandered numerous seats away.

In 2022, NC elected 7 Democrats and 7 Republicans to represent us in the House. After the state legislature redrew the districts this year, we just elected 10 Republicans and 4 Democrats. That's a loss of three Democratic seats in Congress, entirely due to gerrymandering.

It's blatant, it's obvious, we've fought it for years but keep losing our democracy.

That won’t hardly consider gerrymandering and their Supreme Court don’t allow it. They need to gerrymander California and gerrymander, New York. Do a tit for a tat. You have to not bring a spoon to a gunfight.

The liberal news programs were always reporting on Trump's stupidity while helping Trump get out his message daily to entertain us. All news outlets were helping Trump by engaging us, and we soaked it in. I stopped watching CNN because I realized what they were doing. Stop watching any outlet that continues to assist Trump. The stories about Joe Biden's shortcomings were blasted every day. MSNBS, FOX, YOUTUBE, DEMOCRATIC UNDERGROUND, and even PBS were on board to help Trump get elected. I'm sure where others are. All this handwringing about the election outcome is the next story to piss us off. Votes were stolen before the election from 2008 to 2025. 18 million people were purged from the registers for petty reasons. Right now the stories are about liberals crying about the outcome. Don't let them see you cry. Now, we are fighting to regain our freedom while saving democracy.

Trump and his ilk got to where they are in large part by throwing out the normal playbook and never being afraid to launch a clear message with full throated force (even if a lie). Our leadership needs to do the same (except the lie part). We need to start doing everything we can to shape the public's perception through strong clear language that demands media's attention (Trump's a traitor; Trump sold us out) and we can't be afraid of throwing every wrench in the works - just like the Republicans did. I think it starts with not agreeing to a continuing resolution without concessions

8. The 118th congress is objectively a disaster. Johnson and the rest of them get rewarded for their incompetence?

And don't just take my word for it...

The 118th Congress has been characterized as a uniquely ineffectual Congress, with its most notable events pointing towards political dysfunction. The intense gridlock, particularly in the Republican-controlled House, where the Republican Conference's majority was often undercut by internal disputes amongst its members, resulted in it passing the lowest number of laws for the first year of session since the Richard Nixon administration, and possibly ever.

This should have been a tidal wave in favor for Democrats.

They should have kept the White House.

They should kept the Senate.

But even if they didn't do those two... They should have gotten the House.

This is inexcusable on the part of leadership. I would suggest every leader step out of a leadership role to make way for new blood... any new blood.

But my thinking was that the election was more important than my bank balance.

Now that liars won, I've no idea what kind of country we are. My con brother says it's people's pocketbook. I don't think that talking point is true. But the gaslighting made it so.

At least we still have the Fillerbuster in the Senate to keep Congress and the administration in check.

That thing I keep saying we need to keep but everyone else says to get rid of.
