(Bloomberg) -- President-elect Donald Trump said he will nominate financial technology billionaire and veteran SpaceX astronaut Jared Isaacman to serve as the next NASA administrator.
If confirmed, Isaacman would replace Bill Nelson, a former US senator from Florida who has run the agency under outgoing President Joe Biden. The NASA Administrator oversees a roughly $24.8 billion budget and a suite of human and robotic space exploration programs, including the flagship Artemis moon mission.
The decision comes about three months after Isaacman and SpaceX engineer Sarah Gillis made history by performing the worlds first commercial space walk. That mission, called Polaris Dawn, was part of a three-flight program partially funded by Isaacman to help advance human spaceflight at SpaceX.
Having been fortunate to see our amazing planet from space, I am passionate about America leading the most incredible adventure in human history, Isaacman wrote in a social media post. Isaacman has become a central figure at Elon Musk-led SpaceX since 2021, after funding the first all civilian mission to space on the companys Dragon capsule. His space pursuits stem from a side career in aviation.

(157 posts)concerted agenda of sabotaging and villainizing government institutions- that will always be their clear intent .Collapse it by farming out to business with pure, socialized profit as the goal and thus the tragedy of safety concerns ignored further stigmatizes government institutions as unworthy failures.

(12,394 posts)Trump does prefer TV personalities, after all. And really, what could beat captain of a starship to head NASA? Sounds like the ultimate qualification to me.

Jared Isaacman is just another fine, qualified pick by Trumpf to head NASA with Elon Musk chatting amiably with the Russians and China slowly taking over space.
