Vance, GOP committees ask Supreme Court to strike down coordination limits

Source: The Hill

12/06/24 7:02 PM ET

Vice President-elect JD Vance and Republican committees asked the Supreme Court to overturn federal limits that restrict political parties from coordinating spending with candidates on the grounds that they violate the First Amendment.

Limits on contributions to candidates are much lower than they are to party committees such as the National Republican Senatorial Committee (NRSC) and the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC), which are also plaintiffs along with former Rep. Steve Chabot (R-Ohio).

“A political party exists to get its candidates elected. Yet Congress has severely restricted how much parties can spend on their own campaign advertising if done in cooperation with those very candidates,” the plaintiffs wrote in the petition made public Friday. The Federal Election Commission (FEC) declined to comment on litigation.

While a candidate can only accept $3,300 per person per election during the 2024 cycle, the NRSC could take in as much as $578,200 from a single donor per cycle. Limits on how much spending party committees can coordinate with candidates were originally set in part to guard against corruption and outsized influence from a small group of wealthy individuals.

The question is, how bad do things have to get before people understand that action will have to be taken if we want things to change.

Maybe we should ask John Parker?

(Say what you want. As far as I am concerned, we are at that point now.)

And it may have to be millions of people on the streets protesting and during Trump‘s presidency and then let them bring out the military and let them be hard on the people of America so it wakes people up

That would almost be too late, but it might get enough people to wake the hell up to what is going on.

IT just announced that IT was going to try and change the electoral processes. Sure, one might say he has no authority to do that. But he does have Congress and The Supreme Court in his pocket. He does have several governors and their legislative bodies as well. I do not see the wisdom in downplaying the threat IT and IT's cronies present to our country.

Remember. These are the fools who decided a president could legally "remove" someone from existence IF it were an "official act."
Now, imagine the court making a ruling against the orange piece of shit that he really hates or causes problems for his cronies. Don't you think they understand just how dangerous their positions and lives are beholding to this crazy ass and that they would NEVER rule aginst his wishes to insure their and their family safety? Do you think for a second he wouldn't come up with an "official act" to "remove" a Justice that ruled against him? He can ALWAYS replace that one with another, more radical one!
NO, there will be no "major" decisions against anything the asshole in charge nor what any wealthy Republican Business wants if not only to insure their continued life, liberty and happiness...theirs, but not ours.

As to a comment down farther about what can we fight with...public strikes and slow downs are the first line. And there are a lot of places where ideas can be gleaned before they are removed by those in power. You might be surprised at how many sites give good info on just how to "voice" your opinion if you have little to no other choice in life. However, those who are in the better-off middle to higher plains of income are never going to sacrifice THEIR positions because they're ok, right now. Their bills are paid, they have good jobs (so far), better than adequate healthcare and insurance, their kids go to soccer and ballet classes so if it doesn't really affect them, why should they care?

But if the tide starts to turn either against their "own little worlds" or it looks as though the PTB are going to lose, THEN they will help. Until then, "since it doesn't affect me (us)", the rest can suffer.

Search the net...there are a lot of realistic suggestions on how to handle all kinds of things. You might find one you can live with, for a while.

H.R.1 - For the People Act of 2021

It had passed the House in 2021 but couldn't get past the Senate at the time due to the 60-vote threshold (cloture) and Manchin/Sinema's refusal to carve out exceptions to the Rule.

The obscene financial donations from people like Musk are a case in point regarding WHY it needs to happen, and I expect they will do a deep dive into this last election to find all the loopholes that were exploited, so they can try to close them in updated legislative markups. Unfortunately since we will not be Chairs of any chamber's Committees, we are going to have to do "shadow" Committee meetings.
