Costco Faces MAGA Boycott
Source: newsweek.com
Costco is facing threats of a boycott from supporters of President-elect Donald Trump after executives refused to dismantle diversity, equity and inclusion policies at the request of shareholders.
Why It Matters
While DEI initiatives in the workplace became commonplace over the past decade, they have recently faced more scrutiny from both a legal and cultural standpoint—with some companies rolling back their DEI initiatives following boycotts led by conservative consumers.
Project 2025, a series of policies supported by several backers of the incoming Trump administration, lists abolishing DEI practices in both the public and private sectors among the core goals of the next conservative government.

The battlefield is businesses.
The company's board of directors recently rejected calls to abolish its diversity, equity and inclusion practices.
MAGA is mad at them and is throwing a tantrum by directing its army to boycott Costco.
I've decided to upgrade my membership and buying new memberships for friends.
The battlefield is businesses.

(1,172 posts)Just as there are plenty of brands offering cheap pilsner-ish swill, there are options for warehouse club stores.
The benefit they have going into a strike is their store is harder to ditch due to the membership/routine aspect.
We'll see. It'll be a good test of where the MAGAT boycott strength is at.

In Colorado, we have another of the same type of thing going on......Kroeger/King Soopers want to merge with Albertson's/Safeway, forming a monstrous monopoly. In every city, if you went to any of those stores, it wouldn't matter, the giant monopoly would get your money.
So far, they have attempted three times in court to make it happen. Three times, under Biden, it has been shut down........
I would bet that after Jan 20th, these and other Corporations, will be able to do any damn thing they want.......Trump has vowed to either eliminate or neuter the power of the FDC, which was put in place as an Anti Trust, (Anti Monopoly) Regulator. The way it was during the "Gilded Age" and with a whole new group of "Robber Barrons" running rough shod over the economy and commerce in the United States.............the consumers/citizens be damned........

(11,591 posts)when a sporting goods chain got boycotted....Dick's Spt Goods...............
I had never shopped at their stores, but they decided to not carry any of the assault weapon type guns. AND they didn't sell them to some other store, but actually had their inventory of them in each store destroyed. It was their way of protesting a recent school shooting.......
Any ways, the right wing second amendment crowd launched a boycott of Dicks.............
That specifically compelled me go into one of Dick's stores, and load up on everything I would need for the upcoming summer camping season. Over a thousand bucks as I recall.......
I told the cashier why I was doing it, and it was because of Dick's taking a stand to not support selling those types of weapons....
The Store manager was standing right by him, and commented that their companies sales had actually gone up 20% since the Boycott was called.
