'Another Bloodbath' Would Have Happened If Harris Had Won, Democratic Senator Says

Source: Huff Post

Jan 6, 2025, 02:53 PM EST | Updated an hour ago

The attack on the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, may be receding into history, but on its fourth anniversary Monday, Democrats tried to make sure no one forgets it. On the same day a joint session of Congress formally certified President-elect Donald Trump’s 2024 election victory, many Democrats on social media and in person marked the day in somber and sometimes bitter terms.

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) said the expected quiet at the U.S. Capitol Monday, under heavy security measures as well as a blanket of overnight snow, should not be taken for granted.

“It’s because today in America, tragically, only one party respects elections. The other party uses and justifies violence to keep power,” he said in a post. “Had Harris won, today likely would have been another bloodbath.” Another Connecticut lawmaker, Democratic Rep. Jim Himes, echoed Murphy.

“I’m feeling angry about the fact that this is going to be strawberry ice cream and puppies because Trump won, and if Trump had lost we’d be in body armor and protected by the 82nd Airborne right now,” Himes told HuffPost. “And that tells you something about the difference between the two parties.”

We're going to have bloodbaths between now and 2028, even if they are somewhere beside the U.S. Capitol. I don't see any better days ahead for people on American soil.

Despite the quiet surrender of most Democrats in the Congress, Trump will have his Night of the Long Knives. It might not be abductions and executions, as it was when Hitler consolidated power, but it will come. With luck it will just be in the form of using the “justice” system to meet out punishment. You know, charge everybody with everything. Use the courts to tie up and bankrupt Schiff, Pelosi, and every other outspoken Dem.

It’s said that a good prosecutor can get a grand jury to indict a ham sandwich (Merrick Garland not withstanding). I look for spurious felony charges that will allow the Rethugs to arrest and arraign their enemies. I wonder how many House Dems and other prominent Democrats see jail time in their futures? You can be sure they won’t get the kid glove treatment Trump got when he was arrested and mug shorted.

Yes, the Night of the Long Knives is coming. We just don’t know exactly what it will look like yet.

...is that the Trump DoJ will, as promised, "investigate" the 2020 election and, without evidence, declare that Trump clearly won that election. That will be the leadoff to the arrests and imprisonment on treason charges of everyone from Biden and Harris to every Democratic governor, secretary of state, county executive, mayor, and elections supervisor in states won by Democrats. Since there will be no evidence whatsoever to sustain those charges, they'll make sure to get the cases before MAGA judges who will deny bail on the grounds of them all being flight risks, and order them held until trials that will never take place. Eventually, they'll all die in prison.

Rulers love free and fair elections. For instance, in Syria in 2021, Bashar al-Assad won with 95% of the vote.
There were very few improper votes (not enough to swing the result, anyway).

We’ll have a chance to make gains in the House and Senate, and change the calculus. Might even have some bright spots at the state and municipal level, too.

I’d rather look on the bright side. Remember: things CHANGE.

And we start building that change RIGHT NOW!!!

That Trump blocked the National Guard from coming in to help and Capitol security was told not to fire their guns, among other things. Biden would have ensured protection was in place.

Surely more boots on the ground would have put down the insurrection very swiftly.

driver and security detail to take him to the Capitol that day.

He expected and knew there would be armed people in the crowds. He knew because he'd been told they were there by the coup facilitators in the "war room". He knew because that is what he'd told them to do at the rally and online, what his warm up speakers had told them to do and his mouthpieces on FOX and the other stations had said.. It was what the MAGA faithful been told to do every day since before the election he lost.

The current state of justice and equality in this country at the moment make it very difficult to keep these things in sight. Especially when the ones who are being unjust and inequitable are the ones who are in power and were put there by the voters.

It is as if there are two justice systems. And, that it is by design. And that it will never change because the powers that be won't ever let it.
