Village People to perform at Trump rally in DC, inaugural ball
Source: The Hill
The Village People, performers of Trump rally staples like Macho Man and YMCA, are set to bring those songs to the nations capital as part of President-elect Trumps inauguration festivities.
The disco group will perform at Trumps victory rally on Sunday at Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C., and at the Liberty Inaugural Ball, one of three major galas being held Monday night as part of Trumps inauguration, a spokesperson with Trumps inaugural committee exclusively told The Hill.
Charlie Kirk, a conservative media personality and close Trump ally, previously said the group would appear at an inauguration weekend event hosted by his organization, Turning Point USA.
Macho Man and YMCA routinely blared from the speakers at Trump campaign rallies during his 2020 and 2024 campaign rallies. But it was in 2024 that Trumps dancing to the tune of YMCA became a viral sensation, with athletes and politicians alike impersonating it.

Nothing wrong with that, I just find it funny that the Village People sing the soundtrack for maga and they see no irony in that.

Only time I ever rode in a helicopter.

(56,914 posts)Village People frontman Victor Willis is beginning to welcome ex-President Donald Trump using his groups hit song Y.M.C.A. at his campaign rallies.
Initially, Victor used to speak out against the GOP presidential candidate using the Village Peoples song at his rallies, but hes since changed his tune with the onset of publicity. Following the outrage that ensued online after the politico danced for 40 minutes to different songs, which included Y.M.C.A. at his town hall Monday, Victor issued a formal response.
He admitted that though he wasnt thrilled about the Village People anthem being spun at the far-right event, there wasnt much that could be done to stop it from happening.
Victor explained that Trump can legally play Y.M.C.A. at any of his events since he had previously applied for a political use license from Victors performing-rights org, BMI, per TMZ.
He added:...Trump's use of 'Y.M.C.A.' has greatly benefited the song. For example, when Trump started using 'Y.M.C.A' the song shot back up to #2 on Billboard's digital chart."

(3,982 posts)He acquired the rights to the group name in 2017, apparently fired the last 2 original members of the group and has proceeded to grift money off of it, ever since. Not to mention, he's tried to straight-wash their history by claiming their hit singles (YMCA, Macho Man, In The Navy, etc.) were NOT gay anthems.

(3,982 posts)And to be clear, he has become just another Trump supporting grifter. He left the group in 1980, returned in 1982 for just 1 year, then had absolutely nothing to do with the group for the next 35 years. In 2017, he apparently paid for the rights to use the name Village People and has been grifting money off it since then. There were several long term members who were apparently fired by Willis when he took over the group in 2017. Two of them had been there since the beginning, which tells you how big a scumbag Willis is. Seems the current version of "the Village People" is little more than big joke.

(19,694 posts)It depends on how many people hear it, so if the whole song is broadcast they make more than if only a stadium full hears it.
If they only play a clip of a certain number of seconds they get nothing. Bands make their money touring and merch.
Greenwood is making the dough because MAGA have to have the album to hear at home while they raise the flag in the morning.
I have Lee Greenwood's greatest hits album. It's 45.
