Trump says he will create new agency to collect revenue from foreign sources

Source: Reuters via AOL

U.S. President-elect Donald Trump said on Tuesday he will create a new government agency called the External Revenue Service "to collect tariffs, duties, and all revenue" from foreign sources as he readies new import tariffs ahead of his inauguration next week.

Trump said in a social media post he would create the department on Jan. 20, the day he takes office as president for a second term, adding that Americans have been taxed for too long by the Internal Revenue Service.

"Through soft and pathetically weak Trade agreements, the American Economy has delivered growth and prosperity to the World, while taxing ourselves. It is time for that to change," the Republican said in a post on Truth Social.

"We will begin charging those that make money off of us with Trade, and they will start paying, FINALLY, their fair share."

I thought conservaturds were against the expansion of government. Under the last two GOP presidents, the government will have expanded three times.

1: DHS
2: Space Force
3: DOGE and this idiocy

HE called it the External Revenue Service. Good luck with that Trumpie McDouchecanoe.

The importer is the business here in America that brings the foreign goods in. They are filing taxes here anyway, they are registered here, they are generally subject to laws here, etc.

Collecting the tariffs from them is simple and obvious.

The foreign company is some random foreign entity dropping off goods and going home. Why try to collect the tariff from them? If they manage to evade it, we have no recourse.

Basically he's proposing switching from a system that makes sense and works to a system that doesn't make sense and is guaranteed to break, all because he prefers the optics of collecting the import tax from the seller instead of the buyer.

Stupid, stupid, stupid,

If anyone wants to remove goods from Customs, they have to pay any tariff. Even if this great negotiator could convince the exporters to pay them (LOL), we don't need a new agency to collect them. It appears that he thinks he can tax the exporters directly. And not only does he not understand tariffs, all this nonsense is because he also doesn't understand what the balance of trade means -- he thinks it means Canada is cheating us out of $200B a year, and we're "subsidizing" all those cheaters. Of course, all it really means is that they buy less from us than we buy from them.

No matter how many times he gets told how tarriffs actually work he thinks they're wrong because he thinks he's smarter than experts because his yes-men and sycophants keep telling him he is.

This who tariff scheme is just a shakedown - exceptions will be given to most companies on an individual basis that personally pay him bribes, buy Trump Media stock, or buy his scammy cryptocurrency.

tax for licensing name use only on buildings since the name itself doesn't generate jobs. In fact, one could argue that certain names might create a security risk for the local community causing a need for extra public policing. That cost should also be covered by the private entity responsible for the need.

Trump is lying, but the "journalist" presents what he says as though he weren't.

Tariffs and duties are not "revenue from foreign sources."

The Reuters article is a textbook example of "bothsidesism" in journalism.

Trump says foreign nations will pay.

Senator Ron Wyden says the US public will pay.

One of those two statements is true, one is false. The article ignores that critical fact and eve gives more weight to the false statement.

Yup. That tracks.

Now Johnson is going to have to fund it. More debt.
