'We don't have a statement': Massive pro-Trump police union ducks comment after J6 pardons

The Fraternal Order of Police, one of the nation's largest labor organizations for police officers, endorsed President Donald Trump but now that he has pardoned hundreds of people convicted of attacking police, they have nothing to say on the matter. According to S.V. Dáte of the Huffington Post, the group flatly rebuffed his request for comment.
"The Fraternal Order of Police endorsed Trump for president. They congratulated him on his win in November," Dáte posted to X. "Here is what they had to say when I just asked them about Trump releasing HUNDREDS of violent felons who assaulted cops: 'We don't have a statement about that.'"
Trump promised throughout the campaign and during the presidential transition to pardon people convicted of crimes related to the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol in an attempt to prevent former President Joe Biden from being certified. In recent weeks, he and Vice President J.D. Vance had suggested he would review cases individually, possibly to limit the pardons only to those convicted of nonviolent offenses like unlawful picketing or trespassing.
However, on his first day in office, Trump instead issued a blanket pardon for around 1,500 people, including not just those who attacked police officers, but the ringleaders of paramilitary organizations like the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers who were convicted of seditious conspiracy against the United States.

Sergeant Gonell @sergeantaqgo.bsky.social sent me this picture. This is his call log. Each call is an automated Dept of "Justice" notification saying "The defendant you testified against is being released from the dept of corrections."
Each defendant assaulted him.

(8,003 posts)...they support the violent felons as long as they are right wing.
It is the great secret of the military, the police, and the fire departments.
They are the strongholds of toxic masculinity.

I found this out the hard way when I started doing IT support for some of these organizations.

(679 posts)Where is our massive army of soldiers that would fight Fascists and Nazis like the Greatest Generation did? How is it that America has become the opposite of anti-fascists like those soldiers from back in the day? How is it that our military and police are infested with Nazi sympathizers? There must be some soldiers and cops out there that are loyal to America, Democracy, and the Constitution rather than the racism and fascism coming from these MAGA extremists.

(3,076 posts)Have several friends in law enforcement. They all tell me the same thing.
Law enforcement fall roughly equally into three categories.
1. To protect and serve ....they believe that and act on it. These are good people.
2. To work 20, 25, or 30 and out and get a paycheck and then a pension They follow the rules. They don't want to risk losing a job with good benefits and a good pension that allows for a second career. Usually, these are decent people just trying to do their jobs.
3. To bully and abuse...these were bullied (often jocks) in high school who bullied kids and liked the feeling of power. These are bad people. I had one neighbor who was this kind of cop. Everyone knew it. These are kind who are happy that there are white supremacists infiltrating the ranks. They slow walk investigations into 'their kind of people ' they would delete their texts after Jan 6 and count on their brothers to let them get away with it.
The two thirds of decent and good people who are cops allow the bad third to run rough shod.
Sad that the bullies win.
