Trump rolls back standards for water-using appliances, light bulbs
Source: Reuters
WASHINGTON, Feb 11 (Reuters) - President Donald Trump on Tuesday moved to revert to older standards for light bulbs as well as toilets, showers and other water-using appliances, a day after signing an order promoting plastic straws and rescinding a plan to reduce single-use plastics.
Trump said he would call on the Environmental Protection Agency to go back to water standards from his first White House term that would also affect sinks, washing machines and dishwashers.
In a post on his private social media platform, Trump wrote that he was directing EPA Secretary Lee Zeldin "to immediately go back to my Environmental Orders," calling them common sense.
"I look forward to signing these orders," Trump added.

In some parts of the Internet and population, that's just the Arabic adjective for "Jew" or "Jewish", sometimes borrowed into languages with Muslim speakers, and very often has a seriously derogatory meaning.

(148,645 posts)(the lightbulb standards were from a 2007 law (which has been updated/amended over the years but has pretty much stayed intact) despite his nonsense during the 1st term) -
H.R.6 - Energy Independence and Security Act of 2007
Similarly, and over 30 years ago, a law had been passed dealing with water usage standards -
H.R.776 - Energy Policy Act of 1992
These companies are not going to waste money rejiggering their manufacturing process every time he demands it.

(8,283 posts)Reminds me of when he told car makers to forget about CAFE standards and start making gas guzzlers again right before the election in 2020. NO ONE will buy incandescent bulbs so their electric bill can be even higher not to mention their short longevity.
I just did the math on just my garage lights (2) that are 100W LED's using 15W each and on for eight hours per night avg. I save $92.75 per year on my bill from just those TWO LIGHTS using LED bulbs. And of course people save even because they're not endlessly replacing those incandescent bulbs.
So....FUCK YOU TRUMP!!!

(20 posts)I'll keep my Kohler 1.28 GPF with 360 swirl flush and my LED bulbs (Daylight) which are significantly brighter than incandescent and at the same time use 75% less electricity.

I remember when low energy bulbs flooded the market thanx to govt subsidies. Pennsylvania Rep Michelle Bachmann gave all her relatives incandescent light bulbs for Christmas. I bet they got some use out of those. It was the stupidest thing I'd ever heard of then, but now she's watching as she holds DJT's beer.

(8,283 posts)for what reason? They were more expensive when they came out but their longevity made up for it.
It was more of the same, they didn't want Guberment telling them how to save money. Dammit!! I want to pay my energy company as much as possible!! I also want dirty water, air pollution and a coal plant near my home!!

(22,519 posts)I remember the giant freakout over LEDs, even creeped onto DU . 'the color just is off, I don't like them." Today, no one would think of using an incandescent bulb in their house, they're wasteful and burn out way to fast.
We take it for granted that you don't have to change lightbulbs but once in a great while now. Moved into my current home 7-1/2 years ago, there are bulbs I've never even touched and there are ones that I will never replace. They last 50 times longer now.
