The world's fastest supercomputer 'El Capitan' goes online it will be used to secure the US nuclear stockpile and in other classified research. 'El Capitan' can reach a peak performance of 2.746 exaFLOPS, making it the planet's third exascale computer.

'El Capitan' resembles "Colossus" below. (Image credit: Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL)

Charles Forbin (actor Eric Braeden) walks through the interior of Colossus.

At the end of the novel, super AI computer Colossus announces to Dr. Forbin, In time you will come to regard me with not only awe and respect, but love.
How soon will it be before Felon Musk gets his hands on "El Capitan" thru DOGE to make his megalomaniacal dreams come true?
Many thanks to ElementaryPenguin who pointed us into the right direction with the 8 Feb 2025 OP linked below.

(3,015 posts)E.g. the US and USSR space and nuclear programs, DEWs, stealth fighters, drones, etc. There are rare cases when one nation or entity is leaps and bounds ahead of a rival. The French introduced an innovative rifle which they used against the Prussians in 1870-- the Prussians then quickly adopted it. I could be wrong, but I would be astonished if one super AI computer was leaps and bounds ahead of another.

(6,326 posts).... being exaggerated hype. I don't think he is building what should be called a supercomputer. He is building a large datacenter composed of commercial off-the-shelf Nvidia GPUs. He calls it Colossus, probably as fan service to his cult followers.

(11,848 posts)Musk has his own supercomputer, optimized for AI, in Memphis. Of course being the troll that he is, he named it Colossus.

(3,015 posts)Yes, Musk has Project Colossus, but wouldn't he want to access the Livermore systems to exponentially empower his computer?
This is what happened in the novel, except Colossus reached out to Guardian on its own accord.

(3,015 posts)In the Colossus novel, Dr. Forbin's super AI computer detects the presence of a Soviet counterpart called "Guardian" which Colossus demands a telecom connection with. Analogously, we have two super AI computers in the US and China has the Tianhe-3 ('Xingyi'):

Tianhe-3 or "Xingyi" was unveiled in January 2023 with a rumored performance of 2.05 exaflops peak and 1.57 exaflops sustained on High-Performance LINPACK.
When you see the size of these gigantic machines, the need for rare earths to produce or replace parts becomes critical.

Is James Altucher a self-promoting scammer or a member of the Musk Cult?
He seems to be published, but I did not do a deep dive on him as he is not worth my time.
Personally, I would not buy a pencil from him.
Anyway, here's his website:

(774 posts)All I can think of, is how many homeless people could be housed and fed with that much money. How many poor people could have had life a little easier with just a fraction of that sum. A machine is worth more than people.

The same goes for these oligarchs.

TVA head-shed.
Musk chose Texas as a location for one of his facilities AFTER the Democrats funded the Lone Star State with a $35 billion infrastructure grant. His argument about leaving California because of an LGBTQ law and his daughter was palavra.
Trumpf recognizes a successful grifter when he sees one. No one in the Trumpf Crime Family (TCF) lost a penny to goniff Bernie Madoff unlike other NYC oligarchs.
