JD Vance Says U.S. Troops Fighting Russia In Ukraine Is 'On The Table' In Stunning Reversal

Vice President JD Vance told The Wall Street Journal on Thursday that the U.S. sending troops to fight Russia in Ukraine remained on the table the latest stunning statement from inside the Trump administration on their strategy to end the war this week.
The Journal reported, Vance said the option of sending U.S. troops to Ukraine if Moscow failed to negotiate in good faith remained on the table, striking a far tougher tone than did Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth, who on Wednesday suggested the U.S. wouldnt commit forces.
Hegseth, the former Fox News morning show host, walked back comments he made during the NATO summit earlier in the week. On Thursday, he clarified that Ukraine joining NATO was still a possibility as part of peace negotiations just a day after suggesting it was unlikely and argued that Europe should instead guarantee Ukraines security by building up its military capabilities. Hegseth also raised eyebrows across the globe by saying Ukraine returning to its pre-2014 borders was an unrealistic goal, effectively conceding territory to the invading Russians.
Senate Armed Services Chair Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS) sharply criticized Hegseths rookie mistake in making pre-negotiation concessions to Russia. Wicker, who shepherded Hegseths confirmation through his committee, told Politico that Hegseths comments sounded like the kind of thing Tucker Carlson could have written.

Remember when TSFCF approved what Putin told him after his secret meeting with the war criminal in Helsinki, then he walked it back the next day after the widespread disapprovals in the medias?

It was Trump himself that put things in motion when he revealed that he called Putin and they had a 90-minute conversation that was mostly about Ukraine. The details Trump shared showed him throwing Ukraine under the bus by giving Putin pretty much everything he wanted. When the backlash was strong Hegseth stepped in and doubled down, making matters worse. VP Vance then stepped in and reversed everything the other two had said, even going so far as to say that American troops on the ground were on the table. Who told Vance to make this statement? I doubt it was Trump himself. Was it Gen. Kellogg (ret) that is Trump's point man on all things Ukraine?
But where was the one person with direct responsibility to be found and here I am talking about our Secretary of State Rubio? Process should matter but not with this gang that can't get together and communicate a unified message. Instead, it is diplomacy by clown car.

(18,009 posts)The way DJT kisses up to Vlad, a US Expeditionary Force to support his just cause seems like a great idea. And please, don't tell me the US People or the politicians wouldn't stand for it. Susan Collins would express "concern" and vote to use tactical nukes against Ukraine if she was told to.
This Administration really does seem to be at loggerheads with itself. Unfortunately, Elon Musk has a consistent vision and the energy to actually see it through.

(11,492 posts)It's obvious what's going on here. Trump got played by Putin (again), and he, Vance, and Hegseth go out and make statements that clearly show Trump's capitulation. So to prove that they are not weak, Vance goes out and makes the most provocative statement any American has made since the war started.
