Trump revokes legal status of 530,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans

Source: The Guardian

Fri 21 Mar 2025 17.38 EDT

Donald Trump’s administration will revoke the temporary legal status of 530,000 Cubans, Haitians, Nicaraguans and Venezuelans in the United States, according to a Federal Register notice on Friday, in the latest expansion of his crackdown on immigration. It will be effective 24 April.

The move cuts short a two-year “parole” granted to the immigrants under former president Joe Biden that allowed them to enter the country by air if they had US sponsors.

Trump, a Republican, took steps to ramp up immigration enforcement after taking office, including a push to deport record numbers of immigrants in the US illegally. He has argued that the legal entry parole programs launched under his Democratic predecessor overstepped the boundaries of federal law and called for their termination in a 20 January executive order.

Trump said on 6 March that he would decide “very soon” whether to strip the parole status from some 240,000 Ukrainians who fled to the US during the conflict with Russia. Trump’s remarks came in response to a Reuters report that said his administration planned to revoke the status for Ukrainians as soon as April.

They kept coming in for years through the late 50's and early 60's. Somehow they were allowed to stay and most of them eventually earned citizenship status. Those Cuban-Americans have kept together all these years in South Florida, waiting for a chance to return to Cuba, I guess. What's shocking is that they believed Chump would ever lift a finger to help them.

One of the VERY FIRST EUROPEANS, female, to come to what became Texas.

I always joke with her….
your New Spain relatives always seemed to have married the wealthy!!

Some of the largest Spanish Land Grants in what is now Texas,
were her family.

Part of the founding family of Laredo.
One of the founding families of what became San Antonio.

Her family was living in what became Texas, speaking Spanish,
Over 100 YEARS before the gringos.

Then the damn gringos arrived, so the illegal immigrants were the gringos.
And the gringos FAILED to learn the language too.
Spanish was the language- -AND the gringos were not only
Illegal immigrants, but gringos usually failed to learn the language too.

The first generation of Cubans who came (as "exiles", rather than refugees), in the 1960s, were intent on retaking the island of Cuba and many of them acquired serious armament for that purpose - not just assault rifles but even artillery. That stuff doesn't melt away. It's still in grandpa's attic. The rising generation of Cubans were less inclined to combat, but protecting their countrymen from Orange Hitler might be sufficient provocation to use grandpa's weaponry against US immigration officers.
