President Donald Trump said on Wednesday that he has not been briefed on the four U.S. Army soldiers missing in Lithuania after their vehicle was reportedly found submerged in water.
A vehicle carrying the four service members went missing on Wednesday during a training exercise in Pabradė, about 10 miles from Belarus, a Russian client state. In a statement, the U.S. Army revealed that the vehicle had been discovered submerged in water, but said the search for the soldiers was underway.
According to an earlier report, NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte told reporters that the soldiers had been killed, but did not offer details. A NATO spokesperson later clarified to say Rutte was reacting to reports of the submerged vehicle and stated that “the details remained unconfirmed.”
A search for missing soldiers is ongoing as of Wednesday evening.

Who thinks Putin’s already briefed him and he knows exactly what happened?
Because we can't trust our Intelligence Community ever again, so why bother?

(2,557 posts)I think they are proceeding carefully and deliberately to avoid putting out inaccurate information.
They might have found a vehicle with 4 bodies in it. If I were to make the guess, I'd say that the four bodies were the missing soldiers, and I'd probably be correct.
Correctly and positively identifying bodies (especially ones that have been submerged for three days) takes time. So they are being prudent and only putting out information that they are 100% certain of (or at least as certain as possible). That probably won't happen until after autopsies and dental record examinations.
There's also a possibility that there are discrepencies, and they want to investigate further before publically committing to a statement. I highly doubt that is the case, but I'm including that for completeness sake.

(6,501 posts)This is not to suggest his orders and decrees aren’t harmful, but I believe they aren’t his. They are coming from Project 2025 and he is the front man. He is just too cognitively incompetent to know it. They are working around him.

This is a bullshit cover story. They were likely in a forward position doing advising and were killed by Russian artillery or drone strike. Now, don't get me wrong: nothing is more believable than Trump knowing nothing about it, but in this case, it's plausible deniability for when this goofy cover story goes sideways.

Those poor guys.
Having a Commander-in-Chief who is indifferent. at best, to the welfare of the soldiers is bad. Having a C-in-C who is actively hostile to service members is orders of magnitude worse.
