This is only the beginning of bad news for Tesla

Tesla sales plunged 13% in the first three months of this year, as the company reported the largest drop in deliveries in its history by far, amid backlash against CEO Elon Musk and as growing competition from other automakers’ electric vehicles took a large bite out of demand for its EVs.

Tesla reported that it delivered 336,681 cars in the quarter, compared to 386,810 in the first three months of last year. The Wednesday data represented the company’s worst sales in nearly three years, a drop of 50,000 vehicles from a year ago.

Tesla has faced protests outside its showrooms from those opposed to the actions of Musk in one of his other roles as the head of the Department of Government Efficiency, and the policies of President Donald Trump.

There have also been instances of vandalism against Tesla facilities, including its charging stations, as well as some cars. All these incidents may have discouraged some potential Tesla buyers from going ahead with their purchases.

4. I'm not sure "deliveries" ALWAYS equates to "sales." no matter what the CNBC Biz types tell you...

Vehicle REGISTRATIONS would be less subject to manipulation--of course I'm sure no one has a motivation to do THAT...

8. I think those numbers represent deliveries to dealers, who already had them on order.

Does not necessarily reflect actual sales. Go by any large dealership and you'll see lots filled with cars waiting to be sold. There's a Walmart parking lot I pass fairly frequently and most of the time almost a 3rd of the lot is filled with new cars. The dealers must rent out the space from Walmart to store their unsold car/truck inventory.

9. Thanks. I've been wondering what constitutes a delivery.

Does Tesla have dealerships that are independently owned? Are all the dealerships owned by the factory? I don't know.

I suspect that a delivery from Ford or GM might not mean the same thing as a delivery from Tesla.

And good morning.

10. I had no clue about who owned Tesla Dealerships, so googled.

The short answer is no. No independently owned Tesla dealerships.

For the long answer google, "are tesla dealerships independently owned?" .
