'I'll Never Try Again': For Some Gazans, Seeking Aid Is Just Too Risky

"Saleem Abdul Kareem walked for hours just to get a food handout Tuesday morning at a traffic circle in the city of Khan Younis in southern Gaza. When he arrived, he came upon a scene of carnage.

“I saw so many dead and injured, all I could think about was running,” Mr. Kareem, 32, told The New York Times in a telephone interview. “This was my second attempt to get aid. I got nothing either time, and after what I saw, I’ll never try again.”

...“The danger is too high for me to go to these centers,” Awni Abu Hassira, 38, from Gaza City, said in a phone interview. “I don’t want to face death this way.”

As the UN says, it is very dangerous.

Who would set up such a system? They didn't think this is what would happen?

Sometimes, if you're lucky and you work hard enough, the results you get are the results you intended.

Someone needs to step in before forced famine starts killing people off. Though that's already happening under cover of darkness. We just don't know yet.

The "walking by" was the term the UN used. Fearfully approaching is more apt.

These poor people have to take their lives in their hands just to feed their families.

Firing tank shells on defenseless aid seekers is a pretty low point among many other low points.

A system designed to fail while keeping support for an agenda

".... In a video posted on social media, Netanyahu said that although Israel was deploying “massive force to take control of all of the Gaza Strip … we cannot reach a point of starvation, for practical and diplomatic reasons.”

He said Israel’s “closest friends in the world,” including U.S. politicians, told him they were unwavering in their support but could not “handle pictures of mass starvation.” Other Western allies, including Britain, Canada and France, condemned Israel’s decision to expand military operations in Gaza and threatened “concrete actions” if it did not cease its offensive and lift restrictions on aid, which Israel halted on March 2...."

It did not occur to him that purposely starving people might somehow be...immoral?

Interrelated, it's also criminal.

But the aid via trucks is a trickle. Woefully inadequate, per the UN. But it's just enough to lure Palestinians to these roundabouts, where they are routinely slaughtered. Death traps.

Between that and the cruelly useless "aid" at the "aid stations" - consisting of dried goods but no water or fuel to cook them with - it is working out very well for Israel's agenda.

Israel is allowing the aid distribution only for the international eye. In reality, they want all Palestinians dead, and starvation is an easy way to accomplish that.
