Trump orders overhaul of U.S. vaccine schedules

Source: Axios

President Trump ordered his top health officials Friday night to review all U.S. childhood vaccination recommendations and align them with the "best practices" from other developed countries.

Why it matters: It's a vote of confidence in Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr.'s handpicked advisory panel on vaccines, which voted earlier Friday to to drop the decades-old federal recommendation that all infants receive the hepatitis B vaccine at birth.

  • The Centers for Disease Control panel "made a very good decision to END their Hepatitis B Vaccine Recommendation for babies, the vast majority of whom are at NO RISK of Hepatitis B," Trump wrote in a Truth Social post.

  • The big picture: Kennedy and his allies have gained the power to pursue sweeping changes in U.S. vaccine policies, driven by their embrace of discredited theories about vaccines' link to autism and other diseases.

What's inside: Trump's memorandum orders Kennedy and the CDC director to "review best practices from peer, developed countries for core childhood vaccination recommendations — vaccines recommended for all children — and the scientific evidence that informs those best practices."

  • If they determine that other countries' practices are better, Trump ordered them to "update the United States core childhood vaccine schedule to align with such scientific evidence and best practices from peer, developed countries while preserving access to vaccines currently available to Americans."
  • Kennedy responded in an X post: "Thank you, Mr. President. We're on it."

The CDC has now been completely destroyed. The cluelessness with the assertion that the CDC hasn't already, since its inception, worked internationally (including with WHO, which this idiotic administration has ditched), and adopted promising and proven practices based on foreign research publications and policies, is proof of their residing in their own psychotic universe, spewing certifiable psychobabble.

There's nothing of any substance that would elicit any real change by following the EU's ECDC, UK's NHS, PHAC in Canada or anyone else in the industrialized world. They differ a bit on schedule but the recommended vaccinations for childhood disease are the same. They're driven by the same science. Scheduling differences are based on optimizing to address each country's specific health issues. If this is Junior's fishing expedition to try and validate his and his crony's stupidity on childhood vaccination, he's going to get skunked.

Seems Junior fed Donnie a bunch of bullshit Friday afternoon and this stupid shit is what we got in response. The main point is probably to spread confusion if anything else. But there's plenty of good guidance out there other than CDC. And there's keep doing what you've been doing despite these jackasses. That's probably what's going to happen with providers and vaccine producers. This "CDC" is ignored as irrelevant. Junior really can't mandate shit without a political firestorm. He lacks the cojones to go there.

The vaccine advisory committee has been gutted and replaced by bob's hand-selected anti-vax lunatics with no medical degree or training. For example, one guy yesterday going on and on about the evils of the hepatitis vaccine has no medical training at all (just like bob!) His only credential is as "Professor of Operations Management," which somehow makes him "qualified" to render such an opinion. This is what happens when, to secure enough votes, trump pursued the anti-vax crazies and rewarded them by installing a heroin addict with no medical training at all as the head of the federal agency in charge of health policy and research.

It does have one side-effect that trump wants the most: It bumps the epstein files out of the spotlight for a day or two.

...can we stop reporting Dementia Donnie's feverish 'social' media posts as orders or demands?

I could care less what the addled felon cares about. This is why I am off social media (well, except for DU .

As an elementary school SPED teacher, I use a tool called "planned ignoring." Let the student know that the behavior is unacceptable, walk away, and only respond when they act in a appropriate way. In other words, deny the crazy man oxygen and he will stop, eventually.

The reality is that now the agencies are run by people that feel Trump’s rants on social media are lawful orders. When things were run by adults, no one took any action until an official memorandum was received and a plan made. Now, all Trump had to say is “J…”, and all the suck-ups leap as high as they can as soon as they hear the beginning of the word.

The DOD handled this perfectly when Trump started his first term he’d make some outrageous post (like ordering all trans people out of the military) and they would just ignore it until they received official notice.

    https://www.ms.now/rachel-maddow-show/maddowblog/aaron-siri-robert-f-kennedy-vaccines

The Times’ report added, “Mr. Siri has also filed a petition seeking to pause the distribution of 13 other vaccines; challenged, and in some cases quashed, Covid vaccine mandates around the country; sued federal agencies for the disclosure of records related to vaccine approvals; and subjected prominent vaccine scientists to grueling videotaped depositions.”.....

Kennedy ignored the advice. Indeed, after the longtime anti-vaccine conspiracy theorist took the reins at the Department of Health and Human Services, Siri’s name popped up quite a bit. In September, for example, after Susan Monarez was fired as the director of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, she testified before a Senate committee and spoke about RFK Jr. urging her to meet with Siri. A month later, the Times reported that Siri “has played a role in vetting candidates for departmental jobs.”

Last week, the problem went from bad to worse. NBC News reported:

An anti-vaccine lawyer who has regularly sued federal and state health agencies spoke Friday at a meeting of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s vaccine advisory panel — an unheard-of departure for the committee, which for decades was a trusted source for vaccine recommendations.

After Siri’s lengthy anti-vaccine presentation before the CDC’s once-respected Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (better known as ACIP), MS NOW’s Brandy Zadrozny wrote online, “This panel is anti-vaccine theater. It’s a cruel joke.”....

Republican Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana, a former medical doctor who chairs the Senate committee that oversees HHS, wrote online the day before Friday’s meeting, “Aaron Siri is a trial attorney who makes his living suing vaccine manufacturers. He is presenting as if an expert on childhood vaccines. The ACIP is totally discredited. They are not protecting children.”

Nevertheless, despite the circumstances, Siri’s side is winning: On Friday, ACIP, stocked with Kennedy loyalists, voted to stop recommending a life-saving hepatitis B vaccine to infants.

Cassidy described the regressive and radical step as a “mistake” — though as is too often the case, the powerful senator declined to respond with anything meaningful.
