Deaths reported after business jet crashed at an airport in North Carolina

Source: AP News

A sheriff said there were deaths Thursday in the crash of a business jet that was trying to land at a regional airport in Statesville, North Carolina.

[....]

The Federal Aviation Administration said a Cessna C550 crashed while landing at Statesville Regional Airport around 10:20 a.m. Thursday. The National Transportation Safety Board and the FAA are investigating.

Video from WSOC-TV showed first responders rushing onto the runway as flames burned near scattered wreckage from the plane.

The airport’s website states that Statesville Regional Airport offers corporate aviation facilities for Fortune 500 companies and several NASCAR teams.

Statesville Airport is small and is used mostly by Nascar drivers and teams, and a few businesspeople. Since it's already been identified as a jet belonging to Greg Biffles's org, then it is a Nascar jet. Today is December 18th and the flight info in the article tells us that the jet was supposed to go to Sarasota, then on to I think it said the Bahamas, then the jet goes back to Lauderdale.
In other words, this sounds like someone going on a vacation for Christmas. The jet could have been ferrying several people to their family home for the holidays, we know that a lot of teams do that for their people. Or it could be Nascar driver Greg Biffle and his wife and kids going to one of those locations.. We don't know yet.

But you go ahead with the snark that has zero to do with the tragedy unfolding today for at least one family and probably more.

I still contend that the possibility of at least some intrigue can't be ruled out - but I agree that the tone was inappropriate.

To be deleted forthwith.

From the E News article:
"While details on the cause of the crash are pending, Accuweather Vice President of Forecasting Operations Dan DePodwin, weather conditions at the Statesville airport were “adverse,” the Observer reported.

Heavy drizzle and a cloud ceiling near 1,200 feet were reported at 10:15 a.m,” DePodwin said, per the outlet. “The cloud ceiling had reportedly lowered to around 400 feet, with heavy rain reducing visibility to less than 2 miles at 10:30 a.m.”"

No conspiracies. Probably weather and possibly pilot error.

3. This is about 15 miles east of me. That airport handles a number of corporate and race team jets

My husband delivered to them almost every day when he was a FedEx Express courier. Virtually all the NASCAR drivers and crews (and at least one Indy car driver that I know of) live in the area around Statesville and Mooresville; both are just north of Charlotte. This is tragic.
