Trump approves deployment of 350 National Guard members to New Orleans

Source: AP

Updated 6:51 PM EST, December 23, 2025

The Trump administration is deploying 350 National Guard troops to New Orleans ahead of the New Year, launching another federal deployment in the city at the same time that an immigration crackdown led by Border Patrol is underway.

Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell said Tuesday that Guard members, as they have in other deployments in large cities, will be tasked with supporting federal law enforcement partners, including the Department of Justice and the Department of Homeland Security. Parnell added that the National Guard troops will be deployed through February.

Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry, a Republican, praised President Donald Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth for coordinating the deployment and predicted the Guard’s presence would have a positive impact. “It’s going to help us further crack down on the violence here in the city of New Orleans and elsewhere around Louisiana,” Landry said in an appearance on the Fox News’ “The Will Cain Show.” “And so a big shoutout to both of them.”

Critics have argued a National Guard deployment is unwarranted and could cause fear in the community, and they point out that New Orleans has actually seen a decrease in violent crime rates.

The SCOTUS ruling that just came down regarding deploying in IL should apply here (and everywhere else), although I expect that when you have a red state governor going along with this idiocy, then there might not be much to do in this case. It's a waste of taxpayer money for fraudulent reasons, and abuses the authority as well as the people subjected to this.

https://geauxguard.la.gov/2025/12/23/la-national-guard-mobilizes-to-support-law-enforcement-efforts-in-new-orleans/

Approximately 350 Louisiana National Guard service members are mobilizing in Federal Title 32 status through the end of February 2026, remaining under the command authority of Governor Jeff Landry and Maj. Gen. Thomas Friloux, the Adjutant General of Louisiana. They will begin to support law enforcement in New Orleans shortly after Christmas.

As the AP article correctly (and in limited fashion) says, "coordinating the deployment".

In other words, LA summons up LA National Guard and the feds "coordinate" while the guardsfolk ultimately remain under their previous command.

Even NPR got this one right this morning.

But the issue might occur where 45 DIRECTS activation and/or has "other states" go in (which is what has been the an issue in WA (state), OR, CA, and recently the RED STATE with a BLUE governor - NC - in Charlotte).

TN, a red state, was also on the list for NG (Memphis) and we will see what happens.

Nothing says good time in New Orleans as seeing troops in the streets.
