Minnesota state police arrested a U.S. Customs and Border Patrol employee in St. Paul upon finding the man slumped over his steering wheel while covered in vomit.
At 3:25 a.m. on Tuesday, a Minnesota state trooper found 31-year-old Alfredo Mancillas Jr. of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed out at the wheel in the Hamline-Midway neighborhood, according to charges filed by the St. Paul City Attorneys Office. The story was first reported by Sahan Journal, a nonprofit news organization in Minnesota.
Police say Mancillas failed a field sobriety test and refused to take a breathalyzer test, after which he was arrested and booked at the Ramsey County jail. He has been charged with 3rd degree and 4th degree driving while impaired. Sahan Journal asked the Department of Homeland Security what role Mancillas serves in Border Patrol, but the department declined to answer.
CBP stresses honor and integrity in every aspect of our mission, and the overwhelming majority of CBP employees and officers perform their duties with honor and distinction, working tirelessly every day to keep our country safe, a DHS spokesperson told the Journal via email. The arrest comes amid a surge of federal immigration agents in the Twin Cities area.

(625 posts)I lived in rural Alaska (Bethel) for a year working at the PBS station. We did nightly news and in each broadcast we had the PC report ... the number of individuals that were taken into protective custody by the local police each night. These were mostly people that had been found either wandering or passed out in the snow and were taken to jail for the night to avoid them freezing to death by "morning" (sunrise could be as late as 11am in Dec-Jan at that latitude). They would pay a fine (around $70 I think) and be released.
Interestingly, the fine was less than the ~$100/night the two hotels in town charged. I always wondered how many PCs were actually travellers looking for the least expensive bed for the night. Not the most comfortable surely, but relatively cheap.
I'm from Texas originally - even lived in Corpus Christi for a while - and know that us Texans are not used to St. Paul levels of cold. If it was his first winter in that environment I could easily see him making a mistake/bad decision that could have easily cost him his life. And if driving under the influence was that decision it could have easily cost others their lives.
So, Lock Him Up!

(79,983 posts)Since police did not find him actually driving the car, I wonder if he will be convicted?
But also, I do not know what 3rd and 4th drunk driving means.

..............Alfredo Mancillas Jr., 31, of Corpus Christi, Texas, was found in St. Paul "slumped over in the driver's seat" around 3:30 a.m. near Allianz Field, according to court documents reviewed by the Sahan Journal. The vehicle reeked of booze and was parked illegally in a no-parking zone.
Mancillas displayed telltale signs of intoxication, including "bloodshot and watery eyes" along with visible vomit all over him, the report said. After failing a field sobriety test, the agent refused to take a breath test. He was arrested and faces charges of 3rd and 4th degree driving while impaired.

(58,801 posts)their remit was to go after undocumented Irish people. (And BTW, there are PLENTY of undocumented Irish people, but you never hear about them and ICE isn't going after them. Gosh. Wonder why.)

(270 posts)Good point. I'm amazed at how many POC there are acting as ICE/CBP agents. Videos reveal beneath their masks that there are Black and Hispanic agents eager to act within that LEO culture which is antithetical to their own self-interests. Are they too stupid or too in need of a job not to figure out that the ultimate goal of such goon squads is the creation of a totally white Christian nationalist nation?
I saw one video where a Hispanic agent asks an obviously white female citizen where she was born and further questions her right to film him. And he speaks in an almost broken English with a very thick Hispanic accent. What happens to him when he is off duty and is racially profiled for a traffic stop by his comrades who are white racist goons?
