Pulitzer board demands 'complete and unredacted' copy of Mueller report in discovery as Trump decries 'defamatory' words

Source: Law & Crime

If Donald Trump intends to pursue his lawsuit against Pulitzer Prize Board members to the end, the defendants are demanding that the president's legal team hand over a "complete" copy of former special counsel Robert Mueller's report, putting to the test through discovery Trump's claims that a "defamatory" board statement backing Russia probe reporting awards harmed his reputation.

On Friday in Okeechobee County, Florida, where Trump has also filed several notices of board member depositions for the coming weeks, the defendants formally sought a "complete and unredacted copy of the Mueller Report" and "all documents and communications exchanged between" Trump and Mueller's team.

When Trump first filed the lawsuit in 2022, he sought to hold the Pulitzer board member defendants liable for the following statement that backed New York Times and Washington Post awards following independent reviews of the 2017 coverage, a statement rebuffing his demands to rescind the prizes:

The Pulitzer Prize Board has an established, formal process by which complaints against winning entries are carefully reviewed. In the last three years, the Pulitzer Board has received inquiries, including from former President Donald Trump, about submissions from The New York Times and The Washington Post on Russian interference in the U.S. election and its connections to the Trump campaign—submissions that jointly won the 2018 National Reporting prize.

Let the Discovery begin!!! With all the Epstein file releases, it's time for all the files related to his russian campaign connections to come out, too. Let's just get all the dirt on trump out all at one time. And then we can let the trials begin...

The board members stated their document and communications request "includes but is not limited to […] any negotiation" with Mueller regarding Trump's records production or his "answers to written questions," Russia's 2016 hack of the DNC and the ensuing WikiLeaks dump, information on the Trump Tower Moscow project, Donald Trump Jr.'s 2016 Trump Tower meeting, and more.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trump_Always_Chickens_Out

Trump Always Chickens Out (TACO) is a term that gained prominence in May 2025 after many threats and reversals during the trade war U.S. president Donald Trump initiated with his administration's "Liberation Day" tariffs.[1] By 2026, the term also came to be used to characterize some of Trump's decisions in the realm of foreign policy, like threats he did not follow through on regarding Greenland, China, or Iran. The acronym is used to describe Trump's tendency to make tariff threats, only to later delay them as a way to increase time for negotiations and for markets to rebound.[1][2] The term originated on Wall Street, where the TACO trade involves buying stocks cheaply after a tariff announcement pushes stocks lower, then selling them at a profit after the tariffs are delayed or reduced and the market rebounds. In 2026, the term was widely used to describe his reversal of his threats to annex Greenland.[3][4]

it may have been something that the FL courts issue to media.

The original defamation suit was filed in in the state of FL in 2022 when he was out of office (and obviously before the 2024 election).

Some info on the original suit - https://lawandcrime.com/trump/trump-files-defamation-lawsuit-against-pulitzer-prize-board-members-for-praising-russia-probe-reporting-claims-award-carries-very-important-connotations/

The reference to "knowledge or reckless disregard" is Trump's one nod to standard defamation law: an oblique acknowledgement that as a public figure (which Trump undoubtedly is), Trump would only be entitled to wage a lawsuit against a defendant that acted with "actual malice."

I'm a little surprised that the judge hasn't dismissed it yet.

About the discovery request, they are not just asking for the Mueller Report but just about everything one could think of. This will be interesting to watch.

and then saw when the suit was filed, I thought - Ah ha! Discovery time!

He may end up dropping this suit since he has bigger fish to fry.
