LOS ANGELES (AP) Chuck Negron, a founding member of Three Dog Night whose lead vocals powered a string of hits including Joy to the World, One and An Old Fashioned Love Song for one of the top rock acts of the late 1960s and early 70s, died Monday. He was 83.
He died of complications from heart failure and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at his home in the Studio City neighborhood of Los Angeles, according to his publicist Zach Farnum.
Among other hits Negron sang lead on were Easy To Be Hard and The Show Must Go On. He was dismissed from the band in late 1985 because of recurring drug issues.
In 1967, Negron joined Danny Hutton and Cory Wells to form Three Dog Night, a vocal trio with roots in R&B, rock n roll, and urban doo wop. They found success two years later with their first million-selling single One, written by Harry Nilsson.

(28,962 posts)I was so in love with him when I was in junior high school. I had my first slow dance with a boy to, An Old Fashioned Love Song.
I had not heard he was fired for drug use. He carried the load on their music. BTW--Cory Wells sang, "Joy to the World," not Negron.

When I was a kid a major league baseball game cost two school lunches and a chocolate milk. In high school every kid on the "honor roll" ( B+ average or above ) got free tickets to certain games. Nobody was concerned if unaccompanied kids rode the bus.

Sure, it could be interpreted as a plea for kindness and empathy. But it also could be the words of an abuser DARVOing their enabler.

(20,672 posts)For the Down By The Riverside Summer Concert series. My friend Elizabeth and I were near the stage, singing along to all the songs he did with Three Dog Night.
Singing along, he said to me, "YOU know ALL the songs?" I nodded in reply, "YES!"
R.I.P. Chuck. Jeremiah was indeed a Bullfrog and was a very good friend of mine.
