Kristi Noem Says She Found a Source of Major DHS Leaks

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristi Noem said the agency has identified "another prolific leaker” in a post to X Wednesday, adding that she would refer them to the Department of Justice (DOJ) for felony prosecution.

Noem said that the leaker was a source for journalist Shawn Cohen of the Daily Mail, tagging him in the post, saying, "@spccohen is down another source." Newsweek reached out for comment to the DOJ through its online portal and to DHS and Cohen via email Wednesday.

Why It Matters

Noem’s escalation marked a sharp warning to government employees and contractors who disclose operational details to the press, aligning DHS leadership with a push by the Trump administration to accelerate immigration enforcement and deter leaks that officials said endangered agents and undermined arrests.

There have been bipartisan calls for Noem to step down after the killings of two American civilians—Renee Nicole Good and Alex Pretti—at the hands of federal agents in Minnesota last month.
