CBS News chief Bari Weiss set to remake network's iconic 60 Minutes: report

Source: The Independent

Wednesday 01 April 2026 12:53 EDT

CBS News editor-in-chief Bari Weiss is planning major changes to the network’s iconic “60 Minutes” program, according to a new report.

Weiss has privately told people she wants to revamp “60 Minutes,” one of the highest-rated TV news programs, journalist Oliver Darcy reported Tuesday in his Status newsletter. The award-winning show, which first aired in 1968, is known for its in-depth, investigative reports.

Weiss had been looking to make changes mid-season but following discussions with CBS News president Tom Cibrowski and other leaders, she agreed to wait until the show’s current season ends in May, according to the report. The top editor is expected to “blow it up as soon as the season is over,” one source familiar with the issue told Darcy, while another staffer said that “no one knows what to expect.”

Details of Weiss’ vision remain unclear but she is expected to bring in new correspondents who are younger and more aligned with her editorially. She’s also playing an active role in decisions that typically fall to the program’s executive producer, such as staffing, Darcy reported.

DESTROY the iconic program, and turn it into a Fascist mouthpiece in the mold of Fox News or Info Wars.

Here's hoping the new shows' ratings go in the toilet.

Nothing they do matters to rational clear thinking people. It's a real shame.
The Felon's America has become a real sh*t show.

Along with “Network.” Both were incredibly prescient about where our media has gone. Ned Beatty’s boardroom scene with Peter Finch about atonement is absolutely classic and still rings frighteningly true.

Will be very expensive. He will keep her around as long as TSF make happy noises about CBS. Once Trump is gone, she will go too. By then, all the broadcast networks will be tanking. Permanently.

Even in the face of her abject failure thus far, she remains convinced of her superior ideas. With that kind of blind hubris, she should be working for the Trump administration. Please proceed Bari...

I know, I know, Weiss says she's a "Democrat without a home" or somesuch, but if she walks like a rightwinger, talks like a rightwinger, acts like a rightwinger, agrees with rightwingers, and makes up stuff like rightwingers, then she's a rightwinger.

60 Minutes is one of those shows I grew up watching with my dad, along with Jeopardy (before Faux "News" poisoned his brain in the final decade or so of his life).

It was great back in the Osgood days. I haven’t watched much since Pauley took over and since I’m now off CBS I won’t be tuning in again for the foreseeable future 😢.
